A magnetic resonance imaging system is configured to be selectively operated in a default mode and an emulation mode. Execution of machine executable instructions by a processor of the magnetic resonance imaging system causes the magnetic resonance imaging system to receive a selection signal selecting the emulation mode. The magnetic resonance imaging system switches from the default mode to the emulation mode. The magnetic resonance imaging system is operated in the emulation mode using the set of emulation control parameters. The emulated magnetic resonance imaging data is acquired from the imaging zone of the magnetic resonance imaging system.

Emulation mode for MRI

It is an object of the invention to improve MRI based treatment, especially MRI based radiotherapy. This object is achieved by a method for calibrating a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) phantom having an expected geometry and comprising at least one MRI detectable part with a position within the geometry which is known with a geometric inaccuracy. The method comprises the following steps: step 1: placing the phantom at a predetermined location in a magnetic resonance system such that the MRI detectable part is within a symmetry plane of a gradient system of the magnetic resonance imaging system and; step 2: acquiring an MRI image of the MRI detectable part of the phantom by means of a first sequence, wherein the MRI image comprises multiple slices; step 3: determining the geometric inaccuracy of the MRI detectable part of the MRI phantom based on the position and the representation of the part in the MRI image.

Method for calibrating a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) phantom

The invention relates to a prepolarizing magnetic resonance- or relaxation-based measurement system, comprising a prepolarizing coil for producing a prepolarizing field at the target zone, means for pulsing the prepolarizing field according to a first pulsing scheme, and means for measuring magnetization of a target placed in the target zone. According to the invention, the system further comprises a shielding coil for producing a shielding field and means for pulsing the shielding field according to a second pulsing scheme, whereby the shielding coil and the second pulsing scheme are arranged to reduce the formation of unwanted transient fields caused by the coupling of the prepolarizing coil to conducting or magnetic structures in the surroundings of the system. The invention also relates to a corresponding method of measurement and a process of designing the pulsing schemes for the system or process. By means of the invention, the formation of unwanted eddy currents, for example, in the surroundings of the measurement system, can be reduced.
