A motor vehicle having a combustion engine for vehicle propulsion can be automatically stopped when engine propulsion is not needed, such as during a gliding condition when the vehicle is coasting down to a slower speed (e.g., stopping) or down an incline. The engine is automatically restarted as needed. To ensure a capacity of a battery or other electrical storage device to support nominal operation of electrical loads (including a starter motor for restarting the engine) during an Auto Stop event, predicted future states of a vehicle battery are determined using a battery state of function (SOF) in response to load transients that may need to be supported.

Predictive stop-start control using state of function during gliding

A computer, including a processor and a memory, the memory including instructions to be executed by the processor to train a generative adversarial network (GAN) to reconstruct a missing portion of an image by determining a reconstructed portion of the image based on data from portions of the image surrounding the missing portion and compare an acquired image with the reconstructed portion of the image to determine a damaged portion. The instructions further include instructions to determine estimated damage based on the damaged portion.

Vehicle damage estimation

A method for controlling a vehicle active chassis power system includes determining, via a processor, a minimum output voltage/current threshold for an aggregated power supply associated with an active chassis operation, and generating an aggregate State of Function (SoF) indicative of a maximum voltage/current budget for an output of the vehicle active chassis power system. The aggregate SoF is based on a primary power source voltage/current output and a power storage voltage/current output. The method further includes causing to control an active chassis power system actuator based on a minimum voltage/current value associated with the aggregate SoF. Causing to control the active chassis power system actuator can include publishing the aggregate SoF to a braking actuator, a steering actuator, or to a domain controller that actively distributes an aggregated power supply capability SoF to a braking actuator and a steering actuator based on one or more present vehicle states.

State of function adaptive power management

A control system, responsive to receiving values of one or more parameters of a battery of a vehicle for a particular time in service, generates via a machine learning determination a level of confidence at which the values of the one or more parameters of the battery match values of one or more parameters of a set of batteries for a same time in service, and responsive to the level exceeding a predefined threshold, causes a mitigation action to be implemented.

The predicted state of degradation is then converted into an estimate of time or distance remaining before the component needs to serviced, and displayed to the vehicle operator. A system includes a processor configured to receive report of a vehicle part malfunction, along with vehicle travel history covering at least a predefined time period. The processor is also configured to obtain condition data relating to environmental conditions encountered by the vehicle during the travel history. The processor is further configured to compare the obtained condition data to other condition data obtained from other vehicles reporting the same part malfunction. And the processor is configured to create a malfunction likelihood record for the vehicle part, including an association with a condition occurring over a threshold percentage of times with regards to all obtained condition data relating to the part malfunction and an indicator of a likely failure when a vehicle encounters the condition.

Method and apparatus for statistical vehicle element failure analysis

Systems and methods for detecting and reporting vehicle damage events are provided herein. An example method includes detecting any of a key-on or key-off event for a vehicle at a second point in time; in response to detecting the key-on or key-off event, obtaining a current set of images of one or more surfaces of the vehicle using one or more onboard cameras of the vehicle; accessing a baseline set of images for the vehicle obtained at a first point in time that precedes the second point in time; comparing the current set of images to the baseline set of images to determine damage to the one or more surfaces; and presenting a message through a human machine interface of the vehicle that is indicative of the damage.

Systems and methods for detecting and reporting vehicle damage events

A computer determines that a rate of travel value for a route segment being traversed by a first vehicle exceeds a predetermined threshold. A maneuver is planned for the first vehicle to depart from the route segment based on collected vehicle operating data from one or more second vehicles previously traversing the route segment. The first vehicle is instructed to execute the maneuver to depart the route segment.

Methods and systems are provided for reliably prognosing a vehicle component, such as a vehicle battery or an intake air filter. Vehicle diagnostic operation

Embodiments for diagnosing a humidity sensor are provided. One example method comprises adjusting an engine operating parameter based on humidity of a first gas flow measured by a humidity sensor, and indicating degradation of the humidity sensor if a humidity of a second gas flow measured by the humidity sensor is different than an expected humidity. In this way, degradation of the humidity sensor may be indicated if the humidity of the second gas flow measured by the humidity sensor is different than expected.

A packaging device forms a cushioned package for securing and transporting fragile products, where the fragile products are secured within an inner bag that is coupled within a pressurized outer bag. In some embodiments, the inner bag and outer bag may be formed concurrently using an illustrative vertical form fill sealing device. The inner bag may include a first multi-layer material and the outer bag may include a second multi-layer material, each material having specific functional properties to protect the product contained within the package. During formation of the packaging, the first and second multi-layer materials may be sealed together, such as at ends of the package and/or along an edge seam created by an edge sealer. A width of the first multi-layer material may be less than a width of the second multi-layer material.
