An open type luminaire lens including a non-circular reflective lens having a metalized exterior surface and a prism section, the non-circular reflective lens having a shape generally defined by the combination of two parabolas, the prism section including and array of external reflecting prisms of varying predetermined shapes and varying predetermined sizes for use in providing a desired efficient light distribution.

A faceted reflector assembly including a plurality of reflector segments which are preferably, but not necessarily, comprised of pre-anodized and enhanced aluminum having a specular, semi-specular or a diffuse finish. The reflector segments include interlocking means such as tabs and slots for attachment to other reflector segments. The reflector segments, when interlocked, form the faceted reflector of the present invention.

A cable (100, 120) for transmitting electrical energy is constructed with a layer (104) of insulating and shielding material made up of pre-impregnated strands, for example glass strands (105), carrying a nonlinear dielectric material concentrically formed about an electrical conductor (102). A portion of the layer (104) is displaced by stranded material (116) pre-impregnated with a thermally conducting material to define a longitudinal heat distributing channel (114) along the cable (100, 120). The layer (104) of nonlinear dielectric material improves field control within the cable (100, 120) and also the temperature profile along the cable (100, 120), both of which improve performance and life expectancy. In addition, the electric field and the electromagnetic interference (EMI) around the cable (100, 120) are reduced. The longitudinal heat distributing channel (114) further improves the temperature profile along the cable (100, 120).

Composite reinforcements (100, 100A, 100B, 100C) are formed by combining a first plurality of continuous fibers (102) with a second plurality of continuous fibers (106) with the first and second pluralities of continuous fibers (102, 106) being impregnated with at least one appropriate resin material (R1, R2, R3) and pultruded to form the reinforcements. The first and second pluralities of continuous fibers (102, 106) can be intermixed with one another or combined as a central core (104, 132) of the first fibers with a jacket (108, 108A, 108B, 134) formed by the second fibers. In either event, the combined fibers are formed as an elongated rod (110) and rigidified using the resin material. The first fibers are glass, either E-glass or S-2 glass, with the second fibers being either carbon, aramid, S-2 glass or AR-glass. The composite reinforcements of the present application, formed by combining these materials, have characteristics very similar to steel under tensile loading but with superior corrosion resistance and less detrimental deterioration characteristics.
