The invention relates to a modified textile comprising a) a textile substrate; and, b) a lactam coating; and to the use of a lactam to impart anti-biofilm properties to a textile; and to the use of a lactam to inhibit biofilm growth on a textile substrate; wherein the lactam is selected from: (I) 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-methylene-pyrrol-2-one; and (II) 5-methylene-4-(p-tolyl)pyrrol-2-one; (III) 4-(4-bromophenyl)-5-methylene-pyrrol-2-one; (IV) 4-(3-chlorophenyl)-5-methylene-pyrrol-2-one; (V) 4-(2-fluorophenyl)-5-methylene-pyrrol-2-one; and (VI).

The invention relates to a method of treatment of a surface to improve the resistance of the surface to fouling from a photosynthetic species, the method comprising treatment of a surface prone to fouling from a photosynthetic organism with a composition comprising a lactam, wherein the composition comprises from 0.0001 to 5 wt. % of a lactam; and, wherein the surface to be treated is selected from metal, plastic or composites; and to the use of the lactam to inhibit growth of a photosynthetic organism on a surface, wherein the surface to be treated is selected from metal, plastic or composites.

The invention relates to a mousse composition comprising: a) a base composition comprising: (i) from 0.0001 to 5 wt. % of a lactam; (ii) from 0.1 to 10 wt. % of an alcohol; and, b) a propellant; and to the use of a combination of a lactam with an alcohol, in a mousse composition to collapse the resulting mousse foam quicker; and to the use of a combination of a lactam with an alcohol, in a mousse composition to make the resulting mousse foam easier to rinse.
