Setting type joint compound compositions with reduced plaster

A joint tape to be applied to wallboard is provided and includes a base substrate having opposing sides. In certain embodiments, a first adhesive layer is applied to one of the sides of the base substrate and a second adhesive layer is applied to the first adhesive layer, where the first adhesive layer is different than the second adhesive layer. In certain other embodiments, two different adhesives are used in a single adhesive layer. In use, the joint tape is positioned over and removably secured to a joint or corner between adjacent wallboard panels using the first adhesive layer. After the joint tape is in position, joint compound is applied to the joint tape, and the water in the joint tape activates it to form a secure bond with the wallboard panels.

A prefill tool for finishing wallboard joints is provided for finishing a wallboard joint, and includes a box assembly defining a hopper, having a top wall and a front wall constructed and arranged for engaging the wallboard joint. The front wall partially defines a gate dimensioned for dispensing joint compound stored in the hopper. Also, the gate is located on a skid plate mounted on the front wall, the skid plate having a main portion, and a gate portion partially defining the gate being displaced from a plane defined by the main portion.

Prefill tool for finishing wallboard joints

A continuous ready mix joint or texture compound manufacturing system and a method for continuously manufacturing a ready mix joint or texture compound includes a continuous mixer having an inlet and an outlet, a pump disposed at the outlet of the continuous mixer, and a disperger having an inlet and an outlet. The continuous mixer is adapted to receive at least one dry ingredient and at least one wet ingredient at the inlet and continuously mix the at least one dry ingredient and the at least one wet ingredient to form a mixed composition. The pump is adapted to pump the mixed composition from the outlet of the continuous mixer to the inlet of the disperger. The disperger is adapted to receive the mixed composition and apply a shear force to the mixed composition to form a homogenized, disperged composition.

Continuous ready mix joint treatment and texture product production

This invention provides flexible adhesive compositions which can be used instead of joint reinforcement tape for securing a joint seam between abutting panels. Methods using the compositions are provided as well.

Spray-applied joint compound, wall assembly, and methods and products related thereto

Disclosed are aspects of board finishing systems. For example, in various aspects, disclosed are joint compound compositions, wall assemblies, methods of treating walls, and products related to any of the foregoing, including reinforcement trim, e.g., for protecting corners where boards meet, fasteners, and tape. The joint compound preferably is a drying type composition with reduced shrinkage property, and includes binder and hollow spheres, resulting in an ultra lightweight formulation in some embodiments. The joint compound composition can be applied in a one-coat treatment in preferred embodiments. Other aspects of board finishing system accommodate such a one-coat treatment to thusly allow a user to manipulate the compound closer to the plane of board as compared with conventional formulations. Joint tape and reinforcement trim can include non-swelling synthetic paper facing material in some embodiments.

Joint compound, wall assembly, and methods and products related thereto

A kit for assembling walls and ceilings is provided. The kit comprises at least two gypsum boards, each with at least one tapered edge, and a self-drying joint compound comprising a polymeric binder and hollow spheres. Methods for wall and ceiling installation are provided as well.

A wallboard joint compound includes a base joint compound having a homogeneous, paste-like blend of water and at least one of a filler, a binder, a thickener, a suspending agent, a biocide, a preservative, a mineral filler and expanded perlite; and an additive discretely added to the base joint compound to be available for use once mixed into the base joint compound just prior to application of the wallboard joint compound by a user.

Non-homogeneous ready-mix joint compound

A wallboard joint compound package is provided, including a container defining an interior space and configured for being sealed, a first component of ready-mixed joint compound being disposed in the interior space to a level which leaves a pre-determined head space, and an upper surface of the component is defined in the container. A second component is provided, including water, and is placed in the interior space upon the upper surface, such that the first and second components remain substantially distinct prior to opening of the container.
