The present invention relates to the processing of hydrocarbon-containing feedstreams in the presence of an interstitial metal hydride comprised of at least one chemical element selected from Groups 3-11 (including the lanthanides, atomic numbers 58 to 71), and at least one chemical element selected from Groups 13-15 from the IUPAC Periodic Table of Elements. These interstitial metal hydrides, their catalysts and processes using these interstitial metal hydrides and catalysts of the present invention improve overall hydrogenation, product conversion, as well as sulfur reduction in hydrocarbon feedstreams.

The present invention provides a method for selecting an improved catalyst composition comprising a crystalline molecular sieve material having a structure and properties whereby the catalyst composition has at least one active catalytic site with a Mono Alkylation Selectivity Factor (MASF) greater than or equal to 0 kcal/mol&#xb1;0.5 kcal/mol, and optionally further at least one active catalytic site with an Olefin Oligomerization Suppression Factor (OOSF) greater than or equal to 5 kcal/mol&#xb1;0.5 kcal/mol. Further, there is provided an improved process for conversion of hydrocarbon feedstock in the presence of said selected catalyst composition.

Described herein is a catalyst precursor composition comprising at least one metal from Group 6 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, at least one metal from Groups 8-10 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, and a reaction product formed from (i) a first organic compound containing at least one amine group, and (ii) a second organic compound separate from said first organic compound and containing at least one carboxylic acid group. A process for preparing the catalyst precursor composition is also described, as is sulfiding the bulk mixed metal oxide catalyst precursor composition to form a hydroprocessing catalyst.

Hydroprocessing catalysts and their production

Described herein is a catalyst precursor composition comprising at least one metal from Group 6 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, at least one metal from Groups 8-10 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, and a reaction product formed from (i) a first organic compound containing at least one amine group and at least 10 carbon atoms or (ii) a second organic compound containing at least one carboxylic acid group and at least 10 carbon atoms, but not both, wherein the reaction product contains additional unsaturated carbon atoms, relative to the first or second organic compound, wherein the metals of the catalyst precursor composition are arranged in a crystal lattice, and wherein the reaction product is not located within the crystal lattice. A process for preparing the catalyst precursor composition is also described, as is sulfiding the catalyst precursor composition to form a hydroprocessing catalyst.

Bulk metallic catalysts comprised of a Group VIII metal and a Group VIB metal and methods for synthesizing bulk metallic catalysts are provided. The catalysts are prepared by a method wherein precursors of both metals are mixed and interacted with at least one organic acid, such as glyoxylic acid, dried, calcined, and sulfided. The catalysts are used for hydroprocessing, particularly hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation, of hydrocarbon feedstocks.

Bulk group VIII/group VIB metal catalysts and method of preparing same

Supported metallic catalysts comprised of a Group VIII metal, a Group VIB metal, and an organic additive, and methods for synthesizing supported metallic catalysts are provided. The catalysts are prepared by a method wherein precursors of both metals are mixed and interacted with at least one organic additive, dried, calcined, and sulfided. The catalysts are used for hydroprocessing, particularly hydrodesulfurization and hydrodenitrogenation, of hydrocarbon feedstocks.
