A system includes a first aggregated networking device that is included with the second aggregated networking device in a link aggregation domain. The first aggregated networking device provides, to a networking device via a link aggregation group (LAG), a first control message that defines itself as a root bridge and the first link aggregation domain as a designated bridge. The second aggregated networking device detects that the first aggregated networking device is unavailable. The second aggregated networking devices then provides, to the networking device via the LAG, a second control message that defines itself as the root bridge, and the first link aggregation domain as the designated bridge. Network traffic is transmitted in response to the networking device accepting the second aggregated networking device as a new root bridge based on the first link aggregation domain being defined as the designated bridge in both the first and second control messages.

A first information handling system may detect a reboot condition for the first information handling system. Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods for preventing or reducing traffic losses of data. If an information handling system, such as a switch or router, in a network attempts to install route information in the data store of the information handling system and has a failure or a potential failure, the information handling system may take one of several options or combinations thereof. In embodiments, the information handling system may not advertise the route information. In embodiments, the information handling system may send a route withdrawal message to one or more peer information handling systems to remove that system from routing determinations involving the route information. Alternatively, the information handling system may advertise the route prefix with a high metric to indicate that the system is a non-preferred forwarder for data intended for a destination associated with the route information.
