In a non-limiting and exemplary embodiment, a method is provided for sharing secondary cognitive radio resource user related information. A coexistence node receives information on network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. An upload message is generated and sent, the upload message comprising for a secondary user database at least information on the received network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. A location-dependent network map comprising at least information on network properties is generated. The network map is sent to assist one or more secondary cognitive radio resource users.

Method and apparatus for cognitive radio coexistence

The present invention may include system for utilizing operational information obtained by one wireless communication medium that is supported by a wireless device in order to optimize the operation of another wireless communication medium also supported in the same device. More specifically, the present invention may leverage channel condition information collected as part of the standard operation of a wireless communication medium including interference avoidance capabilities, like Bluetooth&#x2122; with Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH), in order to modify the operation in another wireless communication medium such as by determining a channel scan list of potential operational channels to scan, determining a scan order for the channel scan list of potential communication channels based on, for example, the probability that a channel is currently being utilized by a target device, and/or altering a scan rate for one or more communication channels.

Using information obtained from one wireless medium for communication in another wireless medium

Various embodiments are disclosed relating to techniques to provide neighbor information in wireless networks and/or techniques to provide measurement pilot transmission information in wireless networks. According to an example embodiment, a neighbor report may be received from a first wireless node, the neighbor report including at least measurement pilot transmission information for one or more other wireless nodes. According to an example embodiment, a signal measurement technique for measuring signals from at least one of the one or more other wireless nodes may be determined based, at least in part, upon the neighbor report. According to another example embodiment, a message may be received from a first wireless node, the message including measurement pilot transmission information for the first wireless node. A signal measurement technique for measuring signals from the first wireless node may be determined based, at least in part, upon the received message.

Techniques to provide measurement pilot transmission information in wireless networks

In a non-limiting and exemplary embodiment, a method is provided for sharing secondary cognitive radio resource user related information. A coexistence node receives information on network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. An upload message is generated and sent, the upload message including for a secondary user database at least information on the received network properties associated with secondary cognitive radio resource users. A location-dependent network map including at least information on network properties is generated. The network map is sent to assist one or more secondary cognitive radio resource users.

Various embodiments are disclosed relating to use of a measurement pilot for radio measurement in a wireless network, such as, for example, for use in the measurement and generation of beacon reports. In an example embodiment, a radio measurement request may be received from a requesting wireless node and a measurement pilot frame may be received from one or more wireless nodes. A radio measurement report may be generated based, at least in part, on the measurement pilot frame from one or more wireless nodes. The radio measurement report may be transmitted to the requesting wireless node.

Use of measurement pilot for radio measurement in a wireless network

Method and apparatus for radio coexistence

A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modules integrated within the same wireless communication device. A control strategy may be employed to manage both more predictable and more spontaneous wireless communication mediums, wherein a local controller may be employed in a radio module utilizing an unscheduled wireless medium, like WLAN, for determining whether adequate time has been allocated to complete a transaction. If the transaction cannot be completed in the allowed time, it may be delayed until adequate time exists, and the delay may be reported so that the time may be reallocated to other radio modules. The radio module may then enter a power-saving mode until the transaction can be completed.

Managing unscheduled wireless communication in a multiradio device

Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to provide for wireless resource sharing between heterogeneous wireless networks to enable coexistence of secondary networks in a TV band white space by grouping two or more of the neighboring networks into subsets based on predefined rules. An example embodiment of the invention includes a method, comprising the steps of: maintaining, at an apparatus, information regarding at least one of used communication protocols, operator identifiers, and bandwidths associated with one or more wireless networks served by the apparatus and wireless networks neighboring the one or more wireless networks served by the apparatus; forming, from the one or more wireless networks served by the apparatus and the wireless networks neighboring the one or more wireless networks served by the apparatus, a number of subsets, based on at least one of the used communication protocols, the operator identifiers, and the bandwidths associated with the one or more wireless networks served by the apparatus and the wireless networks neighboring the one or more served wireless networks; and comparing the number of formed subsets with a number of available channels.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for resource allocation of coexistent secondary networks

Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed for independent wireless resource sharing on a fair basis to enable selecting the most suitable coexistence between wireless networks. Example embodiments of the invention include a method comprising receiving, at a network controller, a coexistence management service request allowing one or more network controllers to make decisions concerning operational parameters of a wireless network originating the request; determining whether control of the wireless network is to be shared with one or more network controllers serving one or more wireless networks neighboring the wireless network originating the request; and in response to determining that control of the wireless network is not to be shared with the one or more network controllers serving the one or more wireless networks neighboring the wireless network originating the request, notifying the one or more network controllers serving the one or more wireless networks neighboring the wireless network originating the request that the wireless network has requested a coexistence information service.

Efficient use of the radio spectrum

A system for conveying wireless information between an advertising device (advertiser) and another wireless communication device (receiving device). The advertiser's broadcast signal (advertisement) may inform the receiving device that information is available from the advertiser without the requirement of establishing a formal network connection. This information may be then be conveyed, by request, to the receiving device. Further, the advertising device may, in some instances, continue to broadcast to other receiving devices even though it is already engaged in a formal network connection with a receiving device.
