The invention relates to a method for sealing a fiber-based material () to a counter-surface to be bonded to it by melting polymer present at the sealing point. In accordance with the invention, the sealing is performed by directing a laser beam () through the fiber layer () of the material to a radiation-absorbing pigment disposed in the sealing area (), with the absorption heat melting the polymer () and generating the sealing. The method allows sealing of plastic-coated paper or board to itself, to another plastic counter-surface or also to paper or board without any plastic coating. It is also possible to seal uncoated paper or board to paper or board containing plastic, such as plastic-coated paper or board, or to a plastic film. The absorptive pigment, e.g. carbon black, may be admixed in the plastic coating of the board or paper or the plastic film formed on the counter-surface, or the pigment may be located on the surface of the material to be sealed or its fiber layer, or on the counter-surface to which the material is sealed, e.g. as a component of printing ink applied to the counter-surface.

The disclosure concerns a package () comprising a cardboard blank (), the cardboard blank () being shaped as a container with a bottom () and one or more cardboard sidewalls () extending upwardly from the bottom (), the package () further comprising a molded rim () being attached to said one or more cardboard sidewalls (), along an interface (I) formed of an upper portion of said one or more cardboard sidewalls () and a lower portion of said molded rim (), and extending along at least a part of an upper edge of said one or more cardboard sidewalls (), characterised in that the rim () is extending essentially upright upwardly from said one or more cardboard sidewalls () thereby providing the package () with a molded upper sidewall portion. The disclosure also concerns a method and a molding tool.

Method for forming a package

A package for ready-prepared foods which comprises a dish adapted to contain food, said dish containing a rim flange, and a lid, heat-sealed to the rim flange, wherein the rim flange is provided with a plurality of ridges which extend around substantially the entire periphery of the dish defining a space between said ridges, said space being divided into a plurality of transverse ridges which extend across the space forming a plurality of sealing compartments which substantially eliminate sealing leakage.

The present invention relates to a method for forming a package by moulding a cardboard blank in such a manner that a margin area () of the blank, surrounding a middle portion () of the blank, is bent upwards to form side walls of the package while the middle portion forms a bottom of the package. The cardboard blank prior to moulding is provided with at least one area () of reduced bending stiffness being located in a transition zone () between the side walls and the bottom. The package is moulded from the blank so that the at least one area () of reduced bending stiffness is located in the bended areas between the side walls and the bottom and extend in the running direction of the bend. The invention further relates to a package and a package blank that can be used for forming said package.

A cardboard cover that seals a package and that also enables the resealing of the package. The lower surface of the cover () is provided with a downwards directed annular profile () made of an injection mouldable material, which enables the resealing of the cover and is placed inside the package when the package is sealed. The invention also relates to a package which is sealed by using the above-described cardboard cover that enables resealing. Mold system () for manufacturing cardboard-based container, comprising movable mold half () and stationary mold half () located opposite one another. Movable mold half (), movable with respect to stationary mold half (), includes at least a core plate (), a plate-like seal ring () movable with respect to the core, and collar ring (). Stationary mold half () includes at least a mold plate () provided with a mold cavity () and a seal surface (). In the mold system (), an insert () can be supported on and detachably attached to the base () of the mold cavity () reducing the depth H of the mold cavity by its height h. Container () comprises bottom () pressed from cardboard blank and wall () connected to the bottom and plastic rim () connected to the upper edge of the walls.

In a method for forming a package, a package with the shape of a container is formed of a cardboard blank, the package having a bottom and side walls extending upwards from the bottom. At the end stage of compression molding, a rim of molding material extending sideways is molded to the upper part of the side walls when the mold is kept closed in such a way that a mold cavity corresponding to the rim is formed by moving a counter surface inside the mold backwards from a surface opposite to it, after which the molding material is introduced into the mold cavity.

A mould system for manufacturing a container which includes a movable mould half and a stationary mould half which are positioned opposite to each other, wherein the movable mould half includes a core plate provided with a core, a plate-like seal ring that is movable relative to the core, a seal surface which surrounds the core, and a collar ring that is movable relative to the core and the stationary mould half includes a mould plate provided with a mould cavity and a seal surface, wherein in the mould system, a plate-like insert is connected to the seal surface of the seal ring, the insert including a recess which is in contact with a front edge of the seal surface, so that it is in flow communication with molten plastic material flowing from the direction of the collar ring.

The invention relates to a method for protecting the untrimmed edge of paperboard or paper (), in which method the untrimmed edge () of two adjacent paperboards or papers are protected and attached abuttingly together by sealing a separate profile () on both sides of the abutment of the edges () by means of ultrasound.

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for jointing members made of plastic-coated paper or board. In accordance with the invention, the sealable members are retained in position with clamps and sealing is performed with a laser sealing means moving along the sealing line, a means for opening the seal point pressing the members apart to continue keeping the seal point open, a laser beam being directed to the open seal point for melting the coating plastic and a means for closing the seal pressing finally the members against each other, the plastic jointing the members when solidified. The method is applicable to lateral sealing of bag or container packages formed of blanks, among other things.
