This invention is directed to a light weight fire resistant material. The material is constructed of a plurality of oxidized polyacrylonitrile (OPAN) fibers. The fire resistant material having a weight in the range of less than about 9.0 oz/yd, an Arc Thermal Performance Value of greater than about 8.0 and a Thermal Protection Performance of greater than about 13.0.

Fire retardant material and method of making the same

An integrated digital play system made according to the present invention provides a multi media, digitally integrated play environment that incorporates mobile device content and web based content which interacts with physically installed tags. The system includes means for identifying a fixed physical structure within a first play system; means for detecting a physical movement of a user relative to the fixed physical structure; a first computer means for combining the physical structure identification data and the user physical movement data to generate one or more motion points; and a second computer means for providing a virtual embodiment of the one or more motion points within a second play system. Because the first and second play systems are different play systems, the second play system does not require certain corresponding user motions in the first play system in order to perform in or progress through the second play system.

Integrated digital play system

A three-dimensional nanobattery formed by individually wiring nanostructured electrodes and combining them with an electrolyte. Short, capped nanotubes termed 'nanobaskets' are formed by sputtering coating onto nanoporous templates. Metallic nanowires are grown by electrochemical deposition from the nanobaskets and through the template, making electrical contact with each nanobasket electrode. The same procedure can be used to fabricate both a battery anode and a battery cathode. A thin layer of electrolyte is placed between the two nanobasket electrodes, and electrical contact is made through the nanowires.

Nanoscale three-dimensional battery architecture

A safe, environmentally-friendly, fluorocarbon-free temperature suppressing composition includes water in combination with a sugar alcohol in solution with the water and having a general formula H(HCHO)H. Sorbitol is a preferred sugar alcohol (n=5) but sugar alcohols having n=3 to 4 or 6 to 11 may be used. The composition provides a heat absorption greater than the water alone and the sugar alcohol alone. Other sugar alcohols having the general formula H(HCOH)HC, where n=10, may also be used. The composition may further include a wetting agent, an emulsifying agent, a viscosity adjusting agent, a preservative or biocide, or a freeze suppression agent. The composition affords levels of protection suited to a variety of applications including possibility of damage from exposure to excessive heat, combustion or explosion such as may be experienced in military combat.

Fluorocarbon-free, environmentally friendly, natural product-based, and safe fire extinguishing agent

A method of producing a nanobasket and the applications or uses thereof. The method includes the steps of providing a substrate with at least one (1) pore having diameters of about one (1) nanometer to about ten (10) micrometers. Material is deposited by sputter-coating techniques along continuous edges of the pores to form a capped or partially capped nanotube or microtube structure, termed a nanobasket. Either a single material may be used to form nanobaskets over the pores or, alternately, a layered structure may be created wherein an initial material is deposited followed by one or more other materials to form nanobaskets over the pores.
