Techniques disclosed herein relate to determining a calibrated measurement value indicative of a physiological condition of a patient using sensor calibration data determined based on fabrication measurements. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining one or more electrical signals from a sensing element of a sensing arrangement, where the one or more electrical signals are influenced by a physiological condition in a body of a patient; obtaining calibration data associated with the sensing element, where the calibration data is based on fabrication process measurement data for the sensing element and a calibration model for a certain physiological condition; and determining, using the one or more electrical signals and the calibration data associated with the sensing element, a calibrated output value indicative of the physiological condition.

A method and apparatus for a connection interface between a reservoir or syringe, infusion set tubing, and an infusion pump is provided. The reservoir, a base and a cap are connected to form an integrated unit that is capable of being inserted and secured in an infusion pump housing. The cap and the infusion pump are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature, arranged to interact with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor on the other of the cap and infusion pump device, to detect one or more of the presence, position or other characteristic of the cap when the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing. The detectable feature and sensor may be magnetic, RF, mechanical, optical or any combination.

Techniques disclosed herein relate to determining a calibrated measurement value indicative of a physiological condition of a patient using sensor calibration data and a performance model. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining one or more electrical signals from a sensing element of a sensing arrangement, where the one or more electrical signals are influenced by a physiological condition in a body of a patient. The techniques also involve obtaining calibration data associated with the sensing element from a data storage element of the sensing arrangement, converting the one or more electrical signals into one or more calibrated measurement parameters using the calibration data, obtaining a performance model associated with the sensing element, obtaining personal data associated with the patient, and determining, using the performance model and based on the personal data and the one or more calibrated measurement parameters, a calibrated output value indicative of the physiological condition.

Medical devices, systems and methods are provided. One method involves obtaining fabrication process measurement data for a plurality of instances of a sensing element, obtaining reference output measurement data from the plurality of instances in response to a reference stimulus, determining a predictive model for a measurement output of the sensing element as a function of fabrication process measurement variables based on the relationship between the fabrication process measurement data and the reference output measurement data, generating a simulated output measurement distribution across a range of the fabrication process measurement variables using the predictive model, identifying performance thresholds for the measurement output based on the simulated output measurement distribution, obtaining output measurement data from the instance of the sensing element in response to the reference stimulus, and verifying the output measurement data satisfies the performance threshold prior to calibrating a subsequent instance of the sensing element.

Embodiments relate to a cannula that is provided for delivering a substance, such as a medicine (e.g., insulin) to a patient, where the cannula has reduced likelihood of kinking or occlusions when implanted in a patient. The cannula may have a reduced number of stress concentrations along its length, an angled tip and/or a curve in its length. The cannula may include other designs to reduce kinking, such as internal ribbing and/or a slit along its wall.

A device for delivering fluid to a user includes a housing, a drive motor assembly in the housing, a force sensor, and an electronics module. The drive motor assembly regulates delivery of fluid by actuating a piston of a fluid reservoir, and the force sensor generates output levels in response to force imparted thereto during, for example, fluid delivery operations. The electronics module processes the output levels of the force sensor to assess the operating health of the force sensor, to check for occlusions in the fluid delivery path, and to monitor the seating status of the fluid reservoir.

Systems for managing pressure in a fluid reservoir chamber of a fluid infusion device are provided. For example, a fluid infusion device comprises a housing having a reservoir chamber that receives a fluid reservoir and a pump chamber. The fluid infusion device also includes a drive system contained within the pump chamber, and the drive system includes a slide that is movable relative to the fluid reservoir. The slide includes a proximal slide end that cooperates with a portion of the fluid reservoir to dispense fluid, and the proximal slide end has a projection. The fluid infusion device includes a pressure management system defined in the projection of the slide. The pressure management system includes at least one bore defined through the projection. The at least one bore is spaced a distance apart from a perimeter of the projection to vent air from the reservoir chamber into the pump chamber.

Systems for managing reservoir chamber pressure

Apparatus are provided for infusion devices and related control systems and methods. In one embodiment, an infusion device includes a voided portion adapted to receive a shaft portion that includes a shaft coupled to a plunger of a reservoir. The shaft portion includes a detectable feature, and the infusion device includes a sensing arrangement proximate the voided portion to sense the detectable feature. In some embodiments, a control module is coupled to the sensing arrangement to determine a remaining amount of fluid in the reservoir based at least in part on the sensed position of the detectable feature. In other embodiments, the control module identifies an anomalous condition based at least in part on the sensed position of the detectable feature.

A fluid infusion device and related operating methods are disclosed. The fluid infusion device has a housing, a fluid pump mechanism having an inlet and an outlet, a first flow path in fluid communication with the inlet and at least partially defined by structure compatible with fluid cartridge modules containing medication fluid, a second flow path in fluid communication with the outlet and terminating at a subcutaneous conduit for a body, and a drive motor that actuates the pump mechanism. An exemplary operating method detects a first installation of a fluid cartridge module in the housing. The detecting occurs after the housing has been affixed to the body and after the subcutaneous conduit has been inserted into the body. In response to the detecting, the operating method initiates an automatic priming operation to prepare the device for delivery of the medication fluid to the body.

An exemplary method begins by detecting a first installation of a fluid cartridge module in the housing, wherein the detecting occurs after the housing has been affixed to the body. The rotor includes an optically detectable feature, a reference surface, and a cam element rising from the reference surface. The stator includes a cam element having a stator cam surface. The cam elements cooperate to axially displace the rotor as a function of angular position of the rotor, wherein the detectable feature rotates and axially translates as a function of angular position of the rotor. A biasing element provides force to urge the rotor cam element toward the stator cam element and toward the reference surface. A drive motor actuates the rotor to pump medication fluid from a fluid cartridge module to a body, via a subcutaneous conduit. An optical detection circuit interrogates the detectable feature during operation of the fluid pump mechanism to determine an operating condition of the fluid pump mechanism.
