A classification system for classifying sensor samples in a sensor system, the sensor system comprising N force sensors each configured to output a sensor signal, where N≥1, each sensor sample comprising N sample values from the N sensor signals, respectively, the classification system comprising: a classifier configured, for each of a series of candidate sensor samples, to perform a classification operation based on the N sample values concerned and generate a classification result which labels the candidate sensor sample as indicative of a defined target event, thereby generating a series of classification results corresponding to the series of candidate sensor samples, respectively; a determiner configured to output at least one event determination based on the series of classification results; and a controller configured to control the classifier and/or the determiner based on one or more controller input signals.

Force sensor sample classification

A force sensing system for determining if a user input has occurred, the system comprising: an input channel, to receive an input from at least one force sensor; an activity detection stage, to monitor an activity level of the input from the at least one force sensor and, responsive to an activity level which may be indicative of a user input being reached, to generate an indication that an activity has occurred at the force sensor; and an event detection stage to receive said indication, and to determine if a user input has occurred based on the received input from the at least one force sensor.

Force sensing system and method

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide apparatus, methods and computer programs for ultrasonic proximity-detection. In one embodiment, processing circuitry comprises: a first input for receiving an indication of an interrogating ultrasonic signal; a second input for receiving a detected ultrasonic return signal; an adaptive filter, coupled to the first and second inputs, operative to estimate a transfer function between the interrogating ultrasonic signal and the detected ultrasonic return signal; a feature extract module, coupled to the adaptive filter, operative to calculate statistical moments of one or more of: the estimated transfer function; an estimated ultrasonic return signal, calculated based on the interrogating ultrasonic signal and the estimated transfer function; and an error signal, representing the error between the estimated ultrasonic return signal and the detected ultrasonic return signal; and a classifier module, coupled to the feature extract module, operative to determine the presence of a nearby object based on the statistical moments.

Proximity sensing

A method of recording measurement data for characterizing a response of a given type of device to an applied force, the given type defining devices of that type as comprising a defined arrangement of a surface and N force sensors of the device concerned, where N&#x2265;1, each force sensor configured to output a sensor signal, wherein in the defined arrangement the N force sensors are operatively coupled to a defined input region of the surface so as to sense a force applied to that input region, the method comprising: for a specimen device of the given type, performing at least one measurement procedure, each measurement procedure comprising at least one measurement operation, each measurement operation comprising applying a defined force at a corresponding location on the input region of the device concerned and recording measurement data for that device and location based on the sensor signals of the N force sensors of that device. Also disclosed are a related computer-implemented method of generating a characterization definition for devices of the given type, a computer-implemented method of generating a configuration definition for devices of the given type for a given use case defined by a use-case definition, a method of configuring a candidate device of the given type for the given use case, and a method of assessing or calibrating a candidate device of the given type.

Characterization of force-sensor equipped devices

A method for identifying a mechanical impedance of an electromagnetic load may include generating a waveform signal for driving an electromagnetic load and, during driving of the electromagnetic load by the waveform signal or a signal derived therefrom, receiving a current signal representative of a current associated with the electromagnetic load and a back electromotive force signal representative of a back electromotive force associated with the electromagnetic load. The method may also include implementing an adaptive filter to identify parameters of the mechanical impedance of the electromagnetic load, wherein an input of a coefficient control for adapting coefficients of the adaptive filter is a first signal derived from the back electromotive force signal and a target of the coefficient control for adapting coefficients of the adaptive filter is a second signal derived from the current signal.

A controller for use in a device which comprises at least two force sensors in a given arrangement, the controller operable, based on input sensor signals derived from the force sensors, to carry out an arrangement-related operation in which an output sensor signal is generated based on at least two said input sensor signals and the arrangement of the force sensors in the device so that the output sensor signal is dependent on said arrangement.

A baseline unit for use in a sensor system, the sensor system comprising N force sensors which output N sensor signals, respectively, where N&#x2265;2, the baseline unit configured to: monitor measures of gradients of the respective sensor signals; and, in dependence upon the measures of the gradients, control a stored baseline setting to control how a baseline signal for at least one of said sensor signals is calculated using a baseline-calculation method, the baseline-calculation method configured by the currently-stored baseline setting.

Baseline signal calculation

A howling detector is described that is configured to receive an input signal and to determine measure of the linearity of a logarithmic representation of the energy of the input signal. In some examples, this triggers gain adjustment (e.g. of a noise control unit) and, in some further examples, the amount of the gain adjustment may be based on an estimation of the maximum stable gain of a noise control unit.

A device, comprising: a pair of force sensors located for detecting a user squeeze input; and a controller operable in a squeeze detection operation to detect the user squeeze input based on a cross-correlation between respective sensor signals originating from the pair of force sensors.
