Methods and compositions are provided for recombinant DNA production of Factor VIIIC and truncated derivatives thereof. Based on amino acid sequences, probes are developed for isolating messenger RNA, cDNA and/or chromosomal DNA encoding for Factor VIIIC. The Factor VIIIC gene in its entirety, a fragment thereof, or a cDNA is then used for expression of Factor VIIIC in a host. The bacteriophage &#x3bb;FVIII23D containing the 14.43 kb EcoRI fragment was deposited at the A.T.C.C. on Jan. 4, 1984 and given Accession No. 40094. Also, the vector pSVF8-200 was deposited at the A.T.C.C. on Jul. 17, 1985 and given Accession No. 40190.

Factor VIII:C nucleic acid molecules

Novel methods, membrane supports and immunodiagnostic test kits for diagnosinginfection, are disclosed. The methods can also be used to monitor the progress of treatment of an infection. The methods, supports and kits employ both type-common and type-specificantigens and can conveniently be performed in a single-step assay format. The methods provide for highly accurate results and discriminate betweenType I andType II infection so that an accurate diagnosis can be accomplished.

Helicobacter pylori diagnostics

Novel immunogenic compositions are provided involving viral particles composed at least in part of hybrid proteins of at least a portion of a particle forming protein and one or more polypeptides having at least one epitope of interest. Nucleic acid sequences are employed coding for the hybrid protein which are introduced into a host cell for expression, either by themselves or in combination with other DNA sequences coding for particle forming proteins. Expression of the DNA sequences results in formation of particles which may be isolated and used as immunogens for production of antibodies for diagnostics purposes, passive immunization, vaccination, or other uses. Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, 2150-2-3 (pDC103), was deposited on Sep. 7, 1984, at the ATCC and given ATCC Accession No. 20726. Also, Saccharomyces cerevisiae PO17 (pCl/l-MCS29) was deposited at the ATCC on Sep. 5, 1985, and given ATCC Accession No. 20770.

The glycoprotein B ('gB') and analogs thereof are provided by recombinant DNA technology. Oligonucleotide sequences are provided coding the glycoprotein, its precursor and fragments thereof. Methods and compositions are disclosed for the production of the glycoprotein and analogous proteins as well as oligonucleotide sequences, which may be used for probes or other applications, and particularly may be used for vaccines.

Expression of recombinant glycoprotein B from herpes simplex virus

Vaccines and therapeutic compositions and methods for their production and use against Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) are provided employing recombinant HSV glycoproteins B and D. The following E. coli HB101 strains were deposited at the A.T.C.C., where the plasmid indicates the plasmid employed to transform the strain; pHS203; pHS112; pHS114; pHS127A and pHS206 were deposited on Apr. 4, 1984, and assigned Accession Nos. 39649-39653, respectively; pYHS109 and pYHS118 were deposited on Jul. 11, 1984, and given Accession Nos. 39762 and 39763, respectively.

Vaccines against Herpes Simplex virus containing recombinant polypeptides which are cross-reactive with glycoprotein D of the virus, methods for their production using recombinant DNA techniques in yeast, and methods for the use of the vaccine are provided. E. coli strains HB101 containing plasmids pYHS 109 and pYHS118 were deposited at the American Type Culture Collection on Jul. 11, 1984, and granted accession nos. 39762 and 39763, respectively.

Recombinant herpes simplex gb-gd vaccine

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) analogs whose amino acid sequence includes a heterologous peptide domain such as the RGDX tetrapeptide found in fibronectin or the LGGAKQAGDV decapeptide found in fibrinogen that enables the analog to bind to a moiety that is normally present at sites of desired SOD therapy. The domain is incorporated into the SOD sequence in a manner in which it is available to interact with such moieties but does not destroy the enzymatic activity of the molecule. The inclusion of the domain enables the analog to more readily access the target tissue upon which it is to act and/or increase the corporeal half-life of the molecule.

Superoxide dismutase analogs having novel binding properties

Vaccines are provided produced by hybrid DNA technology for Hepatitis B virus comprising Hepatitis B surface antigen particles containing a human polyalbumin binding site receptor. Constructs are provided for expression of the vaccine protein, which upon transformation in an appropriate host results in the production of particles useful as vaccines.

Hepatitis surface antigen particle vaccine

A DNA having a base sequence coding for human epidermal growth factor has been synthesized in blocks, and cloned. Novel recombinant DNA transfer vectors containing said cloned DNA have been constructed. The codon usage of the sequence reflects the codon bias of yeast. The DNA sequence is useful for the large scale synthesis of human epidermal growth factor in yeast cells or microorganisms transformed by said recombinant DNA transfer vectors.
