The embodiments of the disclosed invention provide apparatuses, systems, and methods for preventing ground collisions or physical contact between a vehicle and nearby objects. In various embodiments the vehicle can comprise an aircraft and the nearby object can comprise a hangar. Embodiments of the invention can provide a proximity warning triggered by changes in certain electrical characteristics of the vehicle body relative to its surroundings, said changes responsive to the separation distance between the vehicle and nearby objects, persons or structures.

Systems for connecting PSTN lines to telephones, handsets, computers, telecopy machines and other end user interfaces or consumer electronics devices in a residence or business. Systems according to the present invention include Network Control Units which form the center of a star topology and which communicate via RF link with Wireless Access Units and handsets. Wireless Access Units feature an interface, such as, for example, a standard telephone jack, for accommodating a telephone, a fax machine, a compute modem or other device. Computers or other devices may also be accommodated by Wireless Access Units having other physical and virtual interfaces, including, for instance, serial ports or network interfaces. The Wireless Access Units may also be digital to accommodate ISDN for any other digital standard. Wireless control/monitoring accessories may also be employed to communicate with the Network Control Unit and provide additional functionality such as entrance monitoring, baby monitoring, HVAC control and other services. Such systems may monitor various bands of interest, process, store and change their operation according to information associated with signals or noise in such bands, and, if desired, report such information upstream to management nodes for various purposes.

A method and apparatus for automatic area code dialing includes a processor, software, and a memory for storing telephone numbers. At a dial tone, a caller dials a ten digit number. The processor sends an area code dial request to the caller for future calls. The caller can confirm the request of the dialed number as a frequently-dialed number. The processor stores the number as a seven-digit portion and an area code portion. On subsequent calls to only the seven-digit portion of the number, the processor compares the seven-digit number to a group of stored numbers. If a match is found, the processor transmits both the seven-digit number and its corresponding area code.

A wireless telephone subsystem for coupling line type telephony equipment to the public switched telephone network is described. A base unit is provided which is adapted to be coupled to a plurality of lines of the PSTN. The base unit includes a base coder/decoder which transforms analog signals received from the lines of the PSTN to digital signals and conversely transforms digital signals to analog signals for coupling to the lines of the PSTN. The base unit includes a multiple channel transceiver coupled to the base coder/decoder which responds to the digital signals provided by the base coder/decoder for transmitting those signals by placing selected portions of the digital signals into selected portions of a multiplex frame. The base multiple channel transceiver also receives digital signals and couples those digital signals to the base coder/decoder. Programmable switching is provided to associate selected of the PSTN lines and selected portions of the multiplex frame. The subsystem also includes a wireless interface unit for connecting to the line type telephony equipment. The wireless interface unit also includes a remote coder/decoder for transforming analog signals received from the line type telephony equipment into digital signals and for transforming other digital signals into analog signals for coupling to the line type telephony equipment. The wireless interface also includes a remote transceiver which is coupled to the remote coder/decoder. The remote transceiver responds to digital signals from the remote coder/decoder for transmitting the signals into selected portions of the multiplex frame and receives other digital signals and couples those to the remote coder/decoder.

Home personal communications system

A wireless telephone subsystem for coupling line type telephony equipment to the public switched telephone network is described. A base unit is provided which is adapted to be coupled to a plurality of lines of the PSTN. The base unit includes a base coder/decoder which transforms analog signals received from the lines of the PSTN to digital signals and conversely transforms digital signals to analog signals for coupling to the lines of the PSTN. The base unit includes a multiple channel transceiver coupled to the base coder/decoder which responds to the digital signals provided by the base coder/decoder for transmitting those signals by placing selected portions of the digital signals into selected portions of a multiplex frame. The base multiple channel transceiver also receives digital signals and couples those digital signals to the base coder/decoder. The wireless interface unit also includes a remote coder/decoder for transforming analog signals received from the line type telephony equipment into digital signals and for transforming other digital signals into analog signals for coupling to the line type telephony equipment. The wireless interface also includes a remote transceiver which is coupled to the remote coder/decoder. The remote transceiver responds to digital signals from the remote coder/decoder for transmitting the signals into selected portions of the multiplex frame and receives other digital signals and couples those to the remote coder/decoder.

The present invention comprises the digital implementation of a spread spectrum communications system including a spread spectrum modulator or transmitter and a spread spectrum receiver or demodulator. The demodulator, as modified with optional techniques, operates at zero I. Under these circumstances the receiver is susceptible to 1/F noise, as well as transient overloads. The addition of a high pass filter stage to only the receiver, in a communication system, without modifying the transmitter, will be recognized by those skilled in the art as violating the basic precepts of communications which attempt to tailor the characteristics of a receiver and transmitter to each other. However the applicant has found that demodulating RZ encoded data with an added high pass filter results in the production of Manchester data which is one of the forms of data encoding that can be handled by the demodulator.
