In accordance with the disclosure, devices are provided for closing an opening in tissue. The devices include a proximal portion configured and arranged to occlude the tissue opening, and a distal anchor portion configured and arranged to anchor the device in the tissue opening. If desired, the distal anchor portion can be moved proximally or distally with respect to the proximal portion during implantation. The proximal portion can be configured and arranged to fit into a left atrial appendage of a patient, and further wherein the distal anchor portion is configured and arranged to extend into the left atrial appendage.

Devices and methods for closing openings in tissue structures

Certain implementations of the disclosed technology may include active marker devices, retrofits, systems, and methods for determining the position of interventional devices under MRI. A marker device is provided that utilizes an optical fiber, an acousto-optical sensor region that includes an electro-mechanical conversion assembly, and one or more antenna(e) The one or more antennae are configured to receive MRI radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy and produce a corresponding electrical signal corresponding to the position. The acousto-optical sensor region may include a resonator and may be modulated by acoustic waves generated responsive to the electrical signal received from the one or more antennae The acousto-optical sensor region may be interrogated by light via the optical fiber to determine the position of the device for providing an active marker in the MRI image.

Acousto-optical active markers for interventional MRI

Devices and methods are disclosed for the treatment or repair of regurgitant cardiac valves, such as a mitral valve. An annuloplasty device can be placed in the coronary sinus to reshape the mitral valve and reduce mitral valve regurgitation. A protective device can be placed between the annuloplasty device and an underlying coronary artery to inhibit compression of the underlying coronary artery by the annuloplasty device in the coronary sinus. In addition, the protective device can inhibit compression of the coronary artery from inside the heart, such as from a prosthetic mitral valve that exerts radially outward pressure toward the coronary artery. The annuloplasty device can also create an artificial inner ridge or retaining feature projecting into the native mitral valve region to help secure a prosthetic mitral valve.

Coronary sinus mitral valve annuloplasty procedure and coronary artery and myocardial protection device

The present disclosure provides medical devices having MRI-compatible circuitry. Preferably, the devices do not project an enlarged profile, yet their position can be determined during an iMRI procedure. Illustrative embodiments of such a device can include a base surface, a first conducting layer disposed on the base surface, a first insulating layer disposed over at least a portion of the first conducting layer, and a second conducting layer disposed over at least a portion of the first insulating layer.

MRI-compatible devices

An intracardiac imaging system has an MRI compatible intracardiac echography catheter having transmitters, receivers, a multiplexer, and a beamformer. The catheter can include an atraumatic tip disposed on the distal end of the catheter, a pair of inductively coupled coils proximal the atraumatic tip, at least one CMUT-on-CMOS volumetric imaging chip disposed between the pair of coils, and a cable lumen disposed within the volume sized to house a small number of electrical connections due to significant multiplexing in the CMUT-on-CMOS chip. The catheter can be made of MRI compatible materials and can include active cooling channels.

MRI compatible 3-D intracardiac echography catheter and system

Disclosed herein are segmented MRI-compatible interventional devices, such as catheters and guidewires, that provide desired mechanical properties while avoiding undesired interactions with MRI fields. Disclosed devices can include helical wires with insulated breaks at intervals along each wire so that the insulated wire segments are individually short enough to avoid substantial resonance and heat being generated in the wires due to an applied MRI field. The segmented wires can be organized into a braided/woven tubular configuration or a non-braided intercalated/parallel tubular configuration that provides the desired mechanical properties similar to conventional metallic braided catheters. The helical wire segments can be insulated such that the wires do not touch each other at points where they cross over each other. Breaks in the wires can be staggered along the longitudinal axis of the device and/or circumferentially around the device to minimize formation of weak areas where wire breaks are aligned or grouped.

Segmented MRI catheters and other interventional devices

Disclosed herein are embodiments of segmented metallic guidewires that are suitable for MRI catheterization. Disclosed guidewires comprise a plurality of short conductive metallic segments that individually are short enough such that they do not resonate during MRI. The conductive segments are electrically insulated from each other and mechanically coupled together end-to-end via connectors, such as stiffness matched connectors, to provide a sufficiently long, strong, and flexible guidewire for catheterization that is non-resonant during MRI.

Disclosed herein are devices and methods for closing a hole in the wall of a cardiovascular structure from the inside using a self-assembling closure device. The closure device can be delivered to the subject hole from the inside of the cardiovascular chamber using a transcatheter approach. Disclosed techniques involve deploying the closure device from the delivery device such that an endo-cameral portion of the closure device self-expands first to cover the hole from the inside, and then extra-cameral arms of the device are released to self-deploy against the outside of the wall by withdrawal of a retaining element, such as a guidewire, to secure the closure device to the wall.

This disclosure relates to devices and methods for manipulating, such as with a suction based traction device, a target anatomic structure inside the body and delivering an ligation device around the anatomic structure. In particular examples, the target structure can be an atrial appendage, and the devices and methods are for atrial appendage ligation.

Atrial appendage ligation

Technology disclosed herein provides a reduced transition between the edge of a rigid vascular dilator and the distal edge of the accompanying introducer sheath. Disclosed dilators can be segmented into two or more primarily longitudinally extending parts, can have rigid circumferential or semi-circumferential leading shoulders to minimize the transition between the dilator and the sheath edge, and can contain internal recesses to allow sequential retraction of segments once the introducer sheath is delivered to a target chamber. With this technology, vascular introducer sheaths can be introduced percutaneously into a broad range of diseased target vessels and chambers with reduced damage to the wall of the vessel or chamber, and with reduced damage to the distal end of the introducer sheath.

Vascular dilators

Delivery devices for delivering encircling implants can include two separate limbs that are held together at a distal articulation by the implant being delivered. The implant can comprise a suture and/or a braided tube. The implant can extend through or over the limbs. The implant and at least a distal portion of the limbs can be compressible into a delivery shape that allows for advancement through the lumen of a delivery catheter. When the distal portion of the limbs move out of the delivery catheter, the limbs and implant can resiliently assume a loop shape that is complementary to a shape of a target around which the encircling implant is to be placed. The limbs are then retracted from along the implant to leave the implant in the desired delivery position. The delivery device can be used to place encircling implants around the heart or other targets, and the implant can be tightened to exert compressive force on the target.

Encircling implant delivery systems and methods

Transcatheter methods are disclosed for introducing a large transcatheter implant or other device into an artery from an adjacent vein, for example from the inferior vena cava into the abdominal aorta. Such an access route can be formed by direct puncture through the adjoining vessels. In addition, methods and devices are also disclosed for closing arteriovenous fistulas or other cardiovascular passageways.

A tensioning device is provided comprising a locking device. The locking device comprises a locking enclosure comprising a groove and a locking pin comprising teeth. The tensioning device further comprises a suture comprising first and second portions. The first and second portions of the suture and the locking pin are positioned within the groove of the locking enclosure and the locking pin is movable within the groove between a first, outer position in which the teeth are disengaged from the suture so that the locking device is movable along the first and second portions of the suture and a second, inner position in which the teeth are engaged with the suture so that the locking device is not movable along the suture. Methods for treating mitral valve regurgitation are also provided.
