A method and a device for a microfluidic separation enhancement according to size of the particles to be separated are provided. An asymmetric obstacle in a shape of a cambered hydrofoil, placed at a downstream of a microfluidic channel increases a distance between particles of different sizes, wherein the particles have been partially separated at an upstream of the microfluidic channel, resulting an enhancement in the separation efficiency. Thus, microchannel length is decreased, resulting a decrease in hydraulic resistance and footprint of the microchannel.

Method of microfluidic particle separation enhancement and the device thereof

A microfluidic device is provided. The microfluidic device is used for an in vitro selective capture of biological entities suspended in a medium based on an immunoaffinity technique. The microfluidic device includes symmetric hydrofoil pillars arranged inside ellipse segments acting as a microfluidic channel, wherein the microfluidic channel provides a continuous change of attack angles between the symmetric hydrofoil pillars and the biological entities.

This invention is related with electrical energy conversion device, which uses built-in potential of metal-to-metal junctions from repeating movements with random frequencies, speeds and amplitudes at the medium of the device. The device using the method does not rely on a resonant frequency, besides, it can convert the kinetic energy to electrical energy even at low frequencies. Furthermore, its application to the real life situations is economic and beneficial because of the efficient working principle and simple structure. Unique design of the device enables direct wiring of the outputs of identical or similar devices together for the purpose of power scaling without the need of using another device, which may cause energy losses and increase the total cost. This device also does not require a dummy voltage source or a precharge at the beginning of energy harvesting.
