Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for compensating for certain characteristic(s) of an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). A method that may be performed by a first wireless node includes obtaining an indication of a correction for an IRS to compensate for one or more characteristics of the IRS and communicating with a second wireless node via the IRS using the indication of the correction.

Compensation for an intelligent reflecting surface

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for communicating with an ad hoc intelligent reflecting surface (IRS). A method that may be performed by a user equipment includes receiving signals from a network entity via an ad hoc IRS; configuring the IRS for communications between the UE and the network entity based at least in part on the received signals; and communicating with the network entity through the IRS.

Ad hoc intelligent reflecting surface

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for user equipment (UE) positioning using one or more intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs). A method that may be performed by a UE includes for each IRS of the one or more IRSs: identifying a first IRS reflection center, measuring a first impulse response from the IRS to obtain a first measured impulse response representation, determining a first impulse response for a first ray reflected from the first IRS reflection center of the IRS, estimating a first position of the UE based on, at least, the first IRS reflection centers for each of the one or more IRSs and the first impulse responses for each of the one or more IRSs, and estimating a second position of the UE in an iterative manner until one or more conditions are satisfied.

Techniques for intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) position determination in IRS aided positioning

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device (e.g., a user equipment and/or base station) may operate in a first mode in a wireless network over a radio frequency spectrum band. The wireless device may receive a signal indicating that a value of the radio frequency spectrum band has satisfied a threshold value. The wireless device may switch, based at least in part on the signal indicating that the value has satisfied the threshold value, from the first mode to a second mode for wireless communications in the wireless network, wherein a first length of a first synchronization signal block associated with the first mode is shorter than a second length of a second synchronization signal block associated with the second mode.

Support of high pathloss mode

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some communications systems, interference may impede signaling between a base station and a target user equipment (UE) such that a base station may identify a donor UE to relay communications to the target UE. The donor UE may receive a coded data packet from the base station, and may identify a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI) scrambling code for the packets addressed to the target UE. In cases where the donor UE identifies that the packet has an RNTI scrambling code associated with the target UE, the donor UE may forward the coded data packet to the target UE base on the RNTI scrambling code. Such early detection of data packets addressed to the target UE may allow for the UE to forward a data packet without fully decoding the packet.

Early detection of forwarding for multi-hop ultra-reliable low latency communications

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A codebook adaptation may be performed for a flexible user equipment (UEs) to determine a codebook for a physical configuration of the UE. For example, if the UE determines that the physical configuration does not correspond to a pre-loaded codebook in its memory, the UE may provide information about the physical configuration to a base station to determine a corresponding codebook. Additionally, the UE may request that the base station provide channel information to assist with the codebook determination. In some cases, this request may indicate for the base station to allocate a specific number of channel state information reference signal symbols that the UE can use for the codebook determination. Additionally or alternatively, the UE may generate the codebook internally and then signal to the base station a request for a beam refinement procedure with the generated codebook.

Beamforming codebook adaptation for flexible wireless devices

In an aspect, a position estimation entity determines a set of position estimates associated with a set of user equipments (UEs), obtains first measurement information associated with a set of signals as reflected off of a target intelligent reflecting surface (IRS), determines a position estimate of the target IRS based on the set of position estimates and the first measurement information, and determines an orientation, relative to a common orientation reference frame, of the target IRS based on the set of position estimates and at least the first measurement information.

Methods and systems for operating a base station to reduce beam squinting include determining a lower bound on the number of directional beams used by the base station for millimeter wave wideband communications (e.g., based on operating conditions of the base station or wireless devices within the coverage area of the base station) and transmitting synchronization signal block (SSB) messages in an SSB Burst Set consistent with the determined lower bound on the number of directional beams used by the base station for millimeter wave wideband communications.

Control plane of a layer-1 millimeter wave repeater

A node including an RU and a control entity is disclosed. The node may receive, from a base station at a control entity of the node, an indication of at least one obstruction for communication via at least one reflective surface. The indication may indicate to the control entity to utilize an RU of the node and the at least one reflective surface for communication. The node may configure, upon receiving the indication of the at least one obstruction, the RU and the at least one reflective surface for communication with the base station. The node may forward communication received from, or forward communication to, the base station via the RU and the at least one reflective surface based on the at least one obstruction for communication.

Repeater-based architecture for intelligent reflective surface deployment

Disclosed is a method for wireless communication for determining the position of a wireless node. The method comprises receiving a set of reference signals from a set of at least four positioning devices, wherein the positioning devices are not arranged in a single plane. A signal propagation delay of each one of the set of reference signals is determined and a position of each one of the set of positioning devices is obtained. A convex localization problem is solved for the wireless node based at least in part on the determined signal propagation delay of each one of the set of reference signals and the position of each one of the set of positioning devices. The position of the wireless node is determined based at least in part on solving of the convex localization problem.

Intelligent reflective surface aided positioning by convex optimization

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a repeater may receive a first signal from a transmitting device and determine an amplified version of the signal may not be successfully received by a receiving device. The repeater may transmit a mode switch message to the transmitting device to indicate a request for the transmitting device to switch to a transmission mode associated with one or more different transmission parameters based on detecting that the amplified version of the signal may not be received by the receiving device. The transmitting device may adjust one or more transmission parameters according to the mode switch message and may transmit a second signal to the repeater based on the adjusted transmission parameters. The repeater, operating according to the mode switch message, may receive the second signal and transmit an amplified version of the second signal to the receiving device.

Coverage expansion and interference operating modes for a repeater

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications supporting techniques for enhanced line-of-sight (LOS) communications with analog multi-path beamforming are described. A first wireless device may receive, from a second wireless device, an indication of a capability of the second wireless device to concurrently transmit first signaling in a first analog beamforming direction using a first transmission configuration indicator (TCI) state corresponding to a LOS mode, and second signaling in a second analog beamforming direction using a second TCI state corresponding to an indirect LOS mode. The first wireless device may then receive, from the second wireless device, a first downlink message in the first analog beamforming direction using the first TCI state concurrently with a second downlink message in the second analog beamforming direction using the second TCI state.
