The valve assembly for a rotary compressor includes an elongated valve member which rests on pads on each side of the valve seat and includes an intermediate sealing section normally sealing against the valve seat. An elongated valve spring biases the sealing section toward engagement with the valve seat. An elongated spring backer sits on one end of the valve spring and the other end of the valve member. One end of each of the valve member, valve spring and spring backer are bolted to the compressor end plate. The other end of the spring backer permits the corresponding end of the valve member to slide along the end plate as the valve member moves between its open and closed positions, while restraining the end of the valve member from moving away from the end plate. A backer support, positioned between the spring backer and the head of the bolt, spreads the clamping force and defines a line about which the valve member and valve spring flex.

Rotary compressor with span type discharge valve

A rotary compressor includes a cylinder with a cylindrical compression chamber. A cylindrical piston is eccentrically movable within the chamber. A vane slot extends outwardly in the cylinder from and communicates with the chamber. A vane is reciprocatingly mounted in the vane slot for selective protrusion into and retroaction from the chamber to contact the piston. At least one noise reduction slot projects into the cylinder from its outer peripheral wall near the vane slot and extends completely between the ends of the cylinder.

A hermetically sealed compressor unit includes a hermetically sealed casing having a side wall with a cylindrical inner surface; an electric motor is positioned within the casing and includes a stator with a cylindrical outer wall having an interfering fit with the casing side wall inner surface; a rotary compressor unit driven by the motor includes a cylinder spaced from the motor and having a cylindrical outer wall welded to the casing side wall at selected positions; and at least one stiffening ring positioned adjacent the cylinder and having a cylindrical outer wall of a larger diameter than said cylinder outer wall and having an interfering fit with the casing side wall inner surface.

Motor-compressor with means to reduce noise

A method is disclosed of counteracting the tendency for oil to enter a compressor motor air gap. The method includes the provision of means that interrupt the normally smooth surface of a rotor to which oil would otherwise adhere. Either alternatively or additionally, a sweeping action is carried out for moving oil to stator slots adjacent to the motor air gap and thus out of the air gap. Departure from conventional rotor construction includes providing one or more grooves along the surface of the rotor. Grooves may be cut into rotor surfaces by a file or ball end mill. In other forms, grooves or dents may be coined or otherwise pressed into the rotor; or such grooves may be provided as a result of the configuration of the individual rotor laminations. The grooves may be disposed parallel to the rotor axis or disposed spiralled (clockwise and counterclockwise); and either one or a plurality of grooves may be provided.

Apparatus and methods for controlling oil flow in electric motor air

An offset center of gravity type vibration damper for dampening vibrations of the exhaust gas conduit of a refrigerant compressor. The damper comprises an annular body of elastomeric material sized for encircling a portion of the conduit intermediate the ends thereof, and a unitary element having clamping and mass portions. The clamping portion is generally cylindrical and clamps about the elastomeric body. The mass portion is longitudinally extended and semi-cylindrical.
