A hybrid inertial measurement unit (IMU) comprises: a low frequency (LF) sensor providing a first signal containing information for a first parameter of the hybrid IMU; a shock resistant (SR) sensor providing a second signal containing information for the first parameter, wherein the SR sensor is resistant to destabilization during a destabilizing operational period; and a processor, wherein the processor further comprises: a weighting factor computation module to compute a weight to be applied to the first signal and to compute a weight to be applied to the second signal; a LF weighting module to apply the computed weight to the first signal to create a weighted first signal; a SR weighting module to apply the computed weight to the second signal to create a weighted second signal; and a compensator to combine the weighted first signal and the weighted second signal to create a compensated signal containing information for the first parameter.

Hybrid inertial measurement unit

A bendable apparatus is provided. The flexible material has a first-surface spanned by a first direction and a second direction. The bendable apparatus also includes a first-constraining surface one of: formed in the first-surface of the flexible material; or attached to the first-surface of the flexible material; and a piezo-electric element including a first-edge surface and a second-edge surface opposing the first-edge surface. The piezo-electric element is fixedly attached on the first-surface of the flexible material, so that: the first-edge surface and the second-edge surface are at least approximately perpendicular to the first-surface of the flexible material, and the first-constraining surface is adjacent to the first-edge surface of the piezo-electric element. When a voltage is applied to the piezo-electric element, the piezo-electric element expands in length, the first-edge surface of the piezo-electric element applies a force on the first-constraining surface, and the flexible material bends.

Systems and methods for isolated sensor device protection are provided. In one embodiment, an isolated sensor device comprises: a housing having an isolation chamber; an isolator sealed within the isolation chamber; an inertial sensor assembly sealed within the isolation chamber, the inertial sensor assembly coupled to an inner surface of the isolation chamber by the isolator; and at least one progressive impact interface applied to a periphery of the inertial sensor assembly, wherein the at least one progressive impact interface extends outward from the inertial sensor assembly towards the inner surface.

Systems and methods for isolated sensor device protection

A radiation shield standoff comprises a support section having a mounting surface for an electronic component, with the support section configured to separate the electronic component a predetermined distance from a chassis wall. The standoff also includes a coupling section configured to couple the standoff to the chassis wall. A flange is located between the support section and the coupling section, with the flange configured to hold a radiation shield layer in place on the chassis wall and provide radiation shielding. A boss is located between the flange and the coupling section, with the boss abutted against the flange and smaller than the flange. The standoff also comprises a radiation shielding metal.

A muzzle exit tester system comprises a barrel having an input end and an exit end, a shock plunger freely movable within the barrel, and a shock plate having a first side that faces the exit end of the barrel. A support isolation structure resiliently supports the shock plate, and receives a portion of the barrel that includes the exit end of the barrel. A pneumatic shock apparatus is operatively coupled to the input end of the barrel. The pneumatic shock apparatus is configured to retract the plunger in the barrel via a vacuum while producing a gas pressure charge, and subsequently release the gas pressure charge, such that the plunger accelerates to the exit end of the barrel and impacts the shock plate. The shock plate is configured to resonate at frequencies and amplitudes corresponding to a shock condition of a gun muzzle exit when impacted by the plunger.

An apparatus for providing information pertaining to the orientation of a vehicle to which the apparatus is coupled includes a chassis having a first interior surface and an inertial-sensor assembly disposed within the chassis and having a first exterior surface. A first sensor element is mounted on the first interior surface, and a second sensor element is mounted on the first exterior surface. At least one of the first and second sensor elements is configured to generate a first signal corresponding to an angle of displacement of the second sensor element with respect to the first sensor element.

Inertial sensor misalignment and compensation

An apparatus for providing information pertaining to the orientation of a vehicle to which the apparatus is coupled includes a chassis having a first interior surface and an inertial-sensor assembly disposed within the chassis and having a first exterior surface. A first sensor element is mounted on the first interior surface, and a second sensor element is mounted on the first exterior surface. At least one of the first and second sensor elements is configured to generate a first signal corresponding to a distance of displacement of the second sensor element with respect to the first sensor element.

An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is provided that includes a container that defines a cavity. A sensor suit or ISA having a housing is provided in the container of the IMU. A dampening material is provided between the housing of the ISA and the container of the IMU. The dampening material may be applied by coating, spraying, or dipping, or may be separately molded and then inserted, if desired. A sway space may also be provided between the ISA and the IMU container.

An apparatus for simulating a dynamic high-g environment that includes a test specimen, an incompressible liquid situated adjacent to the test specimen, and a device for creating a dynamic force on the test specimen. In one embodiment, the device for creating a dynamic force includes a vibration actuator that creates a force by creating movement between the test specimen and the incompressible liquid.

The present invention provides systems and methods that can provide a high g-force to a test specimen. An exemplary system of the present invention includes a beam, rigidly fixed at one or both ends, on which a test specimen can be mounted. A loading device is preferably provided that can load the beam by using a ceramic column positioned between the beam and the loading device. A flywheel that has a cutter that can be deployed on command while the flywheel is rotating to fracture the ceramic column is also provided. The present invention also provides systems and methods for controllably damping the oscillation of a loaded beam at some point after the load on the beam is released to produce a high g-force event. For example, a damping device of the present invention may be engaged after the completion of the high g-force event. Such damping can prevent subsequent ringing or oscillation of the beam without affecting the magnitude of the high g-force event.

High g-force shock pulse generator systems and methods

A high-g shock-producing device for testing a sample specimen is described which includes a beam and a shock column. The beam is of predetermined length and has at least one end substantially rigidly fixed with the specimen mounted thereon at a position remote from the one end. The shock column is positioned to apply a force causing said beam to bend in a direction transverse to the length. The column is configured to have a buckling failure when exposed to a pressure which is sufficient to bend the beam an amount to provide the desired high-g force to the specimen. The buckling failure causes the force to be suddenly removed from the beam so as to release the beam and produce the high-g shock on the specimen.

Methods and apparatus for conducting high g-force testing

An apparatus and method for use in testing devices under high-g environments is disclosed in which an elastic beam, rigidly fastened at least at one end, carries the device under test; the beam being pre-loaded to a bent position by a force producing member which may be suddenly removed to allow the stored energy of the beam to be released, and to apply a high-g force to the device.
