A bicycle trainer having a device for direct measurement of torque through a stator of a generator style resistance unit of a bicycle trainer is provided. The direct measurement may be accomplished through the disposition of strain gauges on a device positioned at the intersection of a stator and rigid frame attachment of the generator style resistance unit. The strain gauges may be disposed on radially extending spokes of the stator, or a carrier therefore.

The power meter also includes a printed circuit board ('PCB') having a substrate and at least one strain measurement device which may be attached to the PCB. A power meter for a bicycle includes a body having a torque input section and a torque output section, the body configured to transmit power between the torque input section and the torque output section. The power meter also includes an electronic device having one or more antennae configured to communicate a signal wirelessly.

A chainring structure may include a torque output section comprising a plurality of sprockets having two axially bounding sprockets defining an inner-most and outer-most sprocket and a torque input section configured to attach to a crank assembly. The chainring structure may also include a power meter chamber disposed radially between the torque input section and the torque output section, the power meter chamber including a base surface of a strain measurement section. The power meter may be disposed in the power meter chamber and have at least one strain measurement device attached to the base surface. The torque output section, torque input section, and power meter chamber may be formed as a unitary single piece and configured to dispose the base surface axially between the axially bounding sprockets of the plurality of sprockets.
