Substantially spherical solid particles of a substantially uniform particle size are prepared by dispersing a solution of a polymerizable substance in a first liquid by means of a suitble emulsifier to form droplets of the polymerizable substance of a substantially uniform particle size, which are thereafter poured into a second liquid with which the first liquid is immiscible and which contains a sufficient amount of a reactant to polymerize the polymerizable substance. After the polymerization the substantially spherical particles formed are recovered. In a preferred embodiment, an aqueous solution of an alkaline metal silicate, especially sodium silicate, is dispersed in a coparaffinate by means of a suitable emulsifier, and the emulsion is poured into an aqueous solution of the polymerization reactant to form gelled, substantially spherical hydrated silicate particles.

Process for preparing polymer particles

In an atomizer wheel for the atomization of liquids by ejection through a number of orifices in the side wall of the wheel, whipping-in of air into the atomized liquid is reduced by provision of a protrusion around the leading edge of each orifice relative to the direction of rotation, whereby the liquid flowing backwards relative to the side wall is guided outside the leading edge of the orifice to a liquid inlet passage at the rear part of the ejection orifice relative to the direction of rotation. The protrusion may be formed by a bushing inserted in the ejection orifice and projecting inwardly from the side wall, at the rear side of which relative to the direction of rotation the inlet passage is formed as a slit.

Atomizer wheel for the atomization of liquids

SO.sub.2 is absorbed from hot flue gas by spray drying a Ca(OH).sub.2 -containing suspension in the flue gas. Fly ash is left in the flue gas which is to be treated in the spray absorption process, and the powder which is produced by the spray absorption process and which consequently contains the fly ash and partly reacted Ca(OH).sub.2 is partially recycled. Operation is controlled to obtain a temperature of the flue gas after the treatment which is 8.degree.-20.degree. C. above the saturation temperature of the flue gas at this stage. The process leads to optimum use of the Ca(OH).sub.2 used as absorbent and of the neutralization power inherent in the fly ash. Problems due to sedimentation of the absorbant before its atomization are avoided.

Process for flue gas desulfurization

An aqueous dispersion of polyvinylchloride or vinylchloride copolymerizate is spray dried in a flow of drying air in a drying tower which contains at least one two-fluid nozzle for atomizing the aqueous dispersion and an injection member for pressurized air for providing the atomized particles with a rotary motion, about the longitudinal axis of the drying tower. A controlled rotary motion is imparted to the mixture of sprayed particles and the drying air. The heat economy and product quality are improved since it is possible to use a high drying air inlet temperature and to obtain an easily grindable powder suitable for producing stable, low viscosity plastisols.

Production of a powder of polyvinylchloride or a vinylchloride

An aqueous sucrose solution is evaporated continuously while being subject to vigorous mechanical agitation to produce a sucrose suspension which is spray dried immediately, after which the spray dried product is post-crystallized and post-dried. A complete recovery is obtained of the sucrose present in the solution, in a process which is simple and economical since injection of sucrose crystals in the drying gas in the spray drier is omitted.

Method of evaporating and spray drying of a sucrose solution

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus or system for evaporating liquid and comprises spray drying, spray concentration and conditioning (i.e. cooling and/or moistening) of combustion gas or flue gas. Liquid is atomized or sprayed into an evaporating chamber from a liquid spraying or atomizing device arranged centrally in the upper part of the evaporating chamber, and an unobstructed coherent flow of warm gas, such as combustion gas or flue gas is simultaneously directed substantially axially into the evaporating chamber and upwards towards the atomizing device. Gas phase is currently being discharged from the evaporating chamber at a level substantially below that of the atomizing device, whereby the axially directed gas flow will tend to turn back in a fountain-like manner and spread the atomized liquid so as to continuously form a 'protecting umbrella' over the fountain-shaped gas flow, whereby the combustion gas will be properly cooled before contacting the inner walls of the evaporating chamber.

Method and apparatus for evaporating liquid

A method and an apparatus for producing agglomerated powders such as coffee powder, coffee substitutes such as chicory and other highly hygroscopic and thermoplastic powders in which powder is made to fall down against a central area of a rotating disc. The powder is moistened during the fall against the disc by the supply of steam or finely atomized water across the central area of the disc at such a distance above the same that practically all the powder is moistened before it hits the disc.
