Example embodiments relate a subsea fuse device exposed to a high ambient pressure when deployed. The fuse device comprises a metallic fuse housing enclosing a low-pressure hollow space and a fuse arranged in the low-pressure hollow space, the fuse having two electrical connectors, wherein one of the electrical connectors of the fuse is electrically and thermoconductively coupled to the metallic fuse housing so as to provide an electrical connection between the fuse connector and the housing and to dissipate heat from the fuse.

A capacitor bank includes a plurality of capacitors; a plurality of resistors, each of the capacitors being in series with at least one of the resistors; and a plurality of diodes, each of the diodes being in parallel with one of the resistors. A subsea power cell for converting an electrical three phase input into an electrical one phase output, includes the capacitor bank; a diode rectifier connected to the three phase input; and a plurality of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors connected to the electrical one phase output.

A capacitor system includes a first capacitor and a second capacitor, having essentially the same capacitance, and a current limiter. A first terminal of the first capacitor and a first terminal of the second capacitor are connectable to a first busbar. The second terminal of the first capacitor is coupled to a first terminal of the current limiter and the second terminal of the second capacitor is coupled to a second terminal of the current limiter. The current limiter has at least one third terminal connectable to a second busbar. The current limiter includes a first inductive element and a second inductive element having essentially the same inductance and being magnetically coupled with opposite polarity.

Capacitor system

A subsea power distribution system is provided. The subsea power distribution system includes a power input for receiving electrical power at a first voltage level and an input transformer coupled to the power input and adapted to transform received electrical power to a second voltage level which is lower than the first voltage level. A distribution circuit distributes received electrical power to two or more power distribution paths. At least one rectifier unit receives transformed electrical power from the input transformer and outputs rectified electrical power. The two or more power distribution paths each have an inverter configured to receive rectified electrical power from the rectifier unit and to output AC electrical power at a third voltage level, and a distribution path transformer coupled to the respective inverter and configured to transform the output AC electric power to a fourth voltage level which is higher than the third voltage level.

Subsea power distribution system and method

A capacitor assembly includes at least two capacitor stacks, which have a layer structure including a top layer and a bottom layer. A support assembly supports the capacitor stacks. The capacitor stacks are stacked on top of each other in the support assembly. The support assembly has a compression member which compresses the at least two capacitor stacks in a direction substantially perpendicular to the layer structure. A pressure distribution arrangement adjusts the distribution of the pressure applied to the capacitor stacks by the compression member.

High pressure resistant capacitor assembly and assembly method

An arrangement is provided for alternatively providing a 3-phase or a 1-phase power stream. In an embodiment, the arrangement includes a 3-phase power source including a first, a second and a third power source output terminal; a switching section adapted to selectively provide, from the three power source output terminals of the 3-phase power source, either: a 3-phase power stream at three arrangement output terminals or a 1-phase power stream at two arrangement output terminals, different from the three arrangement output terminals.

A method is provided for transferring electrical power. AC power is generated and guided at least partially underwater. The AC power is guided through a cable from a first end of the cable to a second end of the cable. A frequency of the AC power guided through the cable is adjusted in dependence of a length of the cable between the first end and the second end of the cable.

It is described a switching device comprising a semiconductor switching unit; a contactor electrically coupled in series with the semiconductor switching unit; and a controller being configured for activating an electrically isolating state of the switching device and/or activating an electrically conducting state of the switching device based on a command signal or based on a comparison of a measured value and predetermined activation condition.

Subsea power switching device and methods of operating the same

Methods for transferring electrical power in the sea include: generating AC power; and guiding, at least partially underwater, the AC power through a cable from a first end of the cable to a second end of the cable. A first reactor is connected near the first end of the cable and a second reactor is connected near the second end of the cable. Inductances of the first reactor and the second reactor are selected to at least partially compensate for reactive power generated in the cable.

Method and apparatus for transferring electrical power for subsea applications

A pressure resistant housing for an electric component is provided. The pressure resistant housing is adapted for the use in a subsea application. A ceramic housing body houses the electric component. The ceramic housing body has a first opening and a second opening that are closed by a first metal lid and a second metal lid, respectively.

A device comprising an electrically conductive surface portion is provided for immersion in an electrically conductive liquid such as water. At least one load electrode is provided for supplying an electric load current into the electrically conductive liquid. Further, an electrode, e.g., one or more of the at least one load electrode acts as protection electrode. A protection current source, e.g., a resistor, is electrically coupled to the conductive surface portion and to the protection electrode for providing a protection current flowing between the electrically conductive surface portion and the electrode. Further, the protection current source is adapted for changing the protection current in response to a change in the load current.
