A monitoring device for monitoring a temporary rail connection of two rail portions includes a first fixing element which can be fixed to the first rail portion, and a second fixing element which can be fixed to the second rail portion. The monitoring device furthermore includes a first distance sensor for measuring a first distance between the fixing elements, and a second distance sensor for measuring a second distance between the first fixing element and a first clamping device of the temporary rail connection. The monitoring device allows reliable monitoring of the temporary rail connection. A rail connection system for creating and monitoring a temporary rail connection of two rail portions of a rail is also provided.

A spike puller for pulling a railroad spike of a track includes a housing, a linear displacement unit mounted at the housing, and a claw unit for gripping the railroad spike. The claw unit is displaceable in a linear manner relative to the housing in a displacement direction by using the linear displacement unit. The linear displacement unit includes a hollow tube which is guided in the housing. An electric drive unit electrically operates the linear displacement unit. A machine for track maintenance is manually displaceable on a track. The machine has a work module with a handle, a working tool powered by a drive and a machine frame configured to be guided on a rail of the track. The work module is detachably connected to an energy module and the energy module has an electrical energy store and output contacts. The output contacts are detachably connected to input contacts of the work module. The work module has as the drive an electric motor supplied with electrical energy from the energy store. This solution results in a high degree of overall efficiency because the energy available in the energy store serves for the largest part for covering performance peaks.

A nail punching machine for driving in or pulling out rail spikes comprises a driving mechanism, which is driven by means of an electric drive motor. The electric drive motor is supplied with electric power by means of an accumulator. The nail punching machine is held by an operator by means of at least one handle.

A screwing machine tightens or releases rail fixing screws. The screwing machine contains a machine frame which can be rolled on a track, handles for moving the screwing machine, a motor for applying a torque to a screw head, and a device for transmitting a torque. A measuring device is provided opposite the machine frame in order to detect a reaction torque of the motor. The motor is actuated in order to limit the torque depending on the reaction torque. The reaction torque is used as a reference variable. The reaction torque is applied to the machine frame by the motor and is ascertainable with a high degree of precision by a simple measuring device. In this manner, a simple and robust design and a precise rotational speed limiting function are implemented.

A hand tamper for tamping ballast of a track includes a drive motor for rotation of an imbalance or unbalanced weight and a barrel tip which is approximately V-shaped in longitudinal section and is fastened to a lower end of a barrel connected to the drive motor. A plurality of barrel fins extending in a longitudinal direction of the barrel are disposed on a lower barrel section adjoining the barrel tip. The barrel fins are spaced from one another relative to a barrel cross-section, extend radially from a barrel surface and are elongated into the barrel tip.

The tamper has a drive motor for the rotation of an unbalance and a tamping shovel fastened to a lower end of a shaft which is joined to the drive motor and has a longitudinal axis. Each shovel half has an upper shovel part nearer to the drive motor and a lower shovel part positioned at a first angle &#x3c;180&#xb0; in relation thereto. A rail grinding machine comprises a machine frame having guide wheels running on the rail, a follower frame mounted on the machine frame, the follower and machine frames being pivotally connected for pivoting about an axis extending in the longitudinal direction, and the follower frame having sensing rollers running on the rail of the track. A rail grinding device is mounted on the follower frame for adjustment relative to the rail, a drive motor for driving the rail grinding device is vertically adjustably mounted on a vertical guide connected to the machine frame, and a transmission connects the drive motor to the rail grinding device.
