To manufacture a sound absorbing grinding wheel, vibration damping foils (2) and zones of the grinding compound forming the grinding layers (1) are alternately inserted or poured into a mold (5) and compressed. The obtained grinding wheel blank (7) is cured in a furnace at temperatures from 150.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. The foils (2) are of butyl rubber.

Method for manufacturing of grinding wheel

During the grinding of a workpiece a body separate from the abrasive disk is fed to the zone of cutting and arranged therein. Said body is solid at room temperatures of between 1.degree. C. and 200.degree. C. and contains materials assisting the grinding process, such as cryolite, pyrite etc., or is formed by such materials.

Method for grinding or cutting a workpiece

An abrasive article comprises abrasive grain, a binder material and active fillers. The active fillers are metal halogenides or metallic complex salts.
