Method for treatment of workpieces of porous carbon material with liquid silicon with the formation of silicon carbide, comprising the following steps: preheating of porous carbon workpieces under an inert gas to a selected operating temperature T, delivery of liquid silicon to the porous carbon workpieces at an operating pressure pand an operating temperature Tand impregnation of the porous carbon workpieces with liquid silicon, reaction of the liquid silicon in the workpiece at a temperature Twith formation of silicon carbide from carbon and silicon, gassing of the workpieces with inert gas, and cooling from the operating temperature Tto a conditioning temperature T, cooling of workpieces to room temperature, in step c the delivery of silicon and transport of the workpieces taking place over preferably cylindrical rolls which are porous at least in the exterior region and which are pivoted, and their speed of rotation determining the residence time for the delivery of silicon in step c, and the temperature Tbeing greater than or equal to the temperature T, and the workpieces for process step d no longer being in contact with liquid silicon outside the workpieces.

Method and device for siliconization of carbon-containing materials

A method for treating workpieces that consist of porous carbon material with liquid silicon with the formation of silicon carbide, comprising the steps: Preheating porous carbon workpieces under inert gas to the selected operating temperature T1, feeding liquid silicon to the porous carbon workpieces at an operating pressure p2 and an operating temperature T2, and impregnating the porous carbon workpieces with liquid silicon, reaction of the liquid silicon in the workpiece at a temperature T3 with the formation of silicon carbide that consists of carbon and silicon, gassing the workpiece with inert gas and cooling from the operating temperature T3 to the conditioning temperature T, cooling the workpieces to room temperature, the temperature T3 being greater than or equal to the temperature T2, and the workpiece in step d of the method no longer being in contact with liquid silicon outside of the workpiece.

Method for siliconizing carbon-containing materials

A flat gasket includes a gasket body and at least one eyelet enclosing the gasket body. The gasket body is formed of a pressure-resistant core which is resistant to temperatures of at least 150&deg; C. and a covering that completely covers flat outer sides of the core and is made of a gas-tight foil of an organic polymer having a long-term temperature resistance of at least 150&deg; C. The eyelet or eyelets enclose the gasket body with a gas-tight joining. The core is formed of a plastic or elastomer reinforced with fibers and/or fillers, or it is formed of mica or graphite. If mica or graphite are used, the core is preferably formed of layers disposed alternately on top of one another and formed of graphite foils and metal foils or layers of mica and metal foils.
