A milling machine comprises a machine bed, two workpiece-gripping heads carried by the machine bed, and at least one cutter carriage, which is carried by the machine bed and is movable along guide rails which are normal to the longitudinal axis of the machine. The cutter carriage carries an internally cutting, annular milling cutter. To permit the milling cutter to be changed quickly and easily, the cutter carriage is movable along the guide rails from a central position over a distance which exceeds the radial positioning and feed movement of the milling cutter to an offset position for a tool change. In that position, at least a major portion of the milling cutter, when viewed in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the machine, is disposed outside the contours of the gripping heads.

Milling machine

A milling tool for machining cylindrical sections of crankshafts comprises a rotatable tool drum adapted to be mounted so that it surrounds the workpiece and to be driven and which at one end carries an internally cutting, annular primary cutter head and adjacent thereto is formed in its shell with apertures for the removal of chips. An internally cutting, annular supplemental cutter head has axially projecting claws and is detachably but rigidly secured to the primary cutter head and is axially supported against the latter by the claws. In such tool, a satisfactory removal of chips is ensured, and the supplemental cutter head can be simply and quickly removed to convert the multiple cutter tool to a single cutter tool.

Milling tool for machining cylindrical sections

Known machines for milling a crankshaft comprise a longitudinal carriage movable in a first direction, a tool carriage movable on the longitudinal carriage for reciprocation relative thereto in a direction transverse to the first direction, a cutter head mounted on the tool carriage for rotation and having a cutting tool with inwardly directed cutting edge extending along a cutting circle and a chuck supporting a workpiece for rotation about the same axis as the cutter head and surrounded by the cutting circle. The invention provides a copying attachment comprising a template connected to the tool carriage for reciprocation therewith and having an arcuate edge portion, a roller mounted on the longitudinal carriage for rotation about an axis parallel to the axis about which the arcuate template edge portion is centered, a crank revolving the roller about a third axis parallel to, and spaced from, the said axes, and a hydraulic actuator connected to the tool carriage and including a head applying pressure to a side of the roller remote from the template edge portion, the actuator being operable to press the head into engagement with the remote roller side to force the roller towards the edge portion of the template.

Copying attachment for crankshaft milling machine

A carrying drum has an end face and is adapted to be rotatably mounted and to be rotationaly driven. An inserted-tooth cutter comprises an adapter ring flanged to said end face and provided with at least two retainers, which are axially spaced from each other and from said end face, and with radial through openings between adjacent ones of said retainers and between said retainers and said end face. Said inserted-tooth cutter further comprises at least two axially spaced apart, coaxial toothholders, which are adapted to surround said workpiece and are secured to respective ones of said retainers and carry teeth having radially inwardly facing cutting edges.
