In the method according to the invention for reducing volatile pollutants in the exhaust gases of a heat exchanger system for heating of cement raw meal or the like, partially preheated raw meal is heated to a temperature for release of the pollutants contained therein. In order to be able to achieve this with a reliable mode of operation and with relatively low investment costs, partially preheated raw meal is drawn off from an upper preheater stage and is mixed together in a mixing zone with a fraction of raw meal which is already highly heated and of such a size that the raw meal mixture which is obtained is set to a mixing temperature which releases the pollutants and as a result at least volatile sulphur oxides are incorporated into the raw meal mixture, whilst carbon monoxide formed in the course of this is led off by means of a carrier gas. The raw meal mixture containing the incorporated sulphur oxides is conveyed out of the mixing zone and introduced into a suitable preheater stage for further heating.

A method of forming a grate plate for installation as part of a grate assembly in which free flowing abrasive material is supported for movement along a path while treatment gas flows upwardly through such material. The grate plate includes a relatively thin carrier plate modified to present a highly wear resistant upper surface, the carrier plate having slots formed therein through which treatment gas flows for passage through the material. The method is one which is economical even though the carrier plate itself is formed from relatively expensive material.

Method and apparatus for fine comminution of granular mill feed material

A grate plate construction for installation as part of a grate assembly in which free flowing material is supported for movement along a path while treatment gas flows upwardly through such material. The construction has a relatively thin carrier plate having a highly wear resistant upper surface mounted in a supporting frame having ribs and webs which form with the carrier plate channels through which treatment gas flows for passage through the material via slots formed in the carrier plate by a high-energy process. The construction is economical even though the carrier plate itself is formed from relatively expensive material.

The invention relates to a separator comprising a separator housing with an inlet spiral for separating air which opens tangentially into an annular separating chamber and is divided into a plurality of delivery channels which lie one above the other, as well as a basket-shaped separator rotor disposed centrally and with a vertical axis in the separator housing and a guide vane ring which surrounds the latter with a radial clearance. In order that this separator on the one hand has a high effectiveness of separation between oversize material and fine material and on the other hand facilitates a sufficiently broad grain size distribution of the fine material, the overall shape of the separator rotor is that of a cone which tapers downwards.

The invention relates to the comminution of moist mineral material in the comminution zone of a material comminuting machine followed by breaking up of agglomerates which have formed and subsequent wet classification of the broken-up material. A good disagglomerating effect and reliable operation is achieved with relatively compact construction of the apparatus if the comminuted product is subjected to at least an injection of fluid with at least partial disagglomerating effect whilst still within the material bed comminuting machine and immediately after leaving the comminution zone, and afterwards is passed on to the wet classification.

The invention relates to the cooling of hot, layered, granular material supported on an air permeable grate through which cooling air passes constantly. Some zones of the material layer have a higher temperature than other zones. Pulses of additional cooling air are passed through the higher temperature zones at such velocity as to enhance cooling and to relayer the material at such zones. In this way the degree of recuperation of the grate cooler can be substantially improved.

The invention relates to a rotary gate valve arrangement with a gate valve housing, a rotatably mounted gate valve rotor arranged therein at right angles to the material flow direction and having a part-cylindrical sliding part which co-operates with a sealing arrangement containing a cassette-like rectangular sealing frame with a sealing element running around it, the sealing frame being received in the receiving channel formed in the housing in such a way that through flow of material is unimpeded and the sealing frame can be simply and quickly inserted and withdrawn without the removal of essential parts of the rotary gate valve.

The invention relates to a roller mill with two rollers, a grinding gap formed thereby and a material inlet shaft the end walls of which bear on their lower ends carrier plates with replaceable sintered metal wear parts. Each wear part is formed by a plurality of small sintered metal plates of small area which are set close against one another like a mosaic and are individually screwed onto the carrier plate so that in case of wear only those small sintered metal plates which are actually worn can be replaced simply, quickly and economically.

Apparatus and method for the heat treatment of fine-grained material

The invention relates to a sifter in which the spiral for delivery of the air for sifting is divided into a plurality of channels lying one above another in which elements for setting the quantity of sifting air delivered to the individual channels are provided.
