A breath responsive filter blower respirator system for a gas mask including a pressure and control device, such as an optoelectric device and/or a pressure sensor, to control the air flow produced by an air blower. The optoelectric device detects the position of the mask's outflow valve. The pressure sensor measures air pressure in the mask relative to ambient air or the absolute air pressure in the mask. During exhalation, the pressure detector detects an increase in air pressure in the mask and/or the optoelectric device detects the outflow valve in an open position, and then signals the central processing unit to signal the air blower to reduce speed. The reduction in speed reduces air flow in the mask and lowers air pressure in the mask.

Breath responsive filter blower respirator system

A pressure indicator for positive pressure protection masks, including powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs) that monitors and determines relative air pressure between the internal space of a protection mask and the ambient environment to alert users of negative or threshold level air pressure, and in turn, to ensure safe operation of the protection masks. The pressure indicator, which is incorporated in the mask, alerts users when the air pressure in the mask reaches a critical level by transmitting optical signals, auditory signals, vibrational signals or a combination thereof that are detectable by the user. The optical signals are projected into the user's line of vision either directly or through a head-up display. The pressure indicator may cause the signal to indicate a safe and danger mode, or may cause the signal to indicate only during a danger mode.

Pressure indicator for positive pressure protection masks

A thin profile PAPR filter blower system and method of use that operates in conjunction with a thin profile filter cartridge. The design allows an unaided user to swap filter cartridges without compromising the safety of the user, even when the user is located in a contaminated environment. Other components of the system include a blower control mechanism, a short conduit for delivering filtered air to a worn face mask, a self-contained power supply, optional attachment features to secure the system to a wearer's body, features for sealably connecting and replacing filter cartridges, and a quick change locking mechanism to secure and release filter cartridges. An optional remotely located control device is also provided.

Thin profile air purifying blower unit and filter cartridges, and method of use

The present invention relates to a breath controlled air inlet valve for controlling a flow of air supplied to a wearer of a facemask, the valve permitting the flow of air when a wearer breathes in and restricting the flow of air when the wearer breathes out. The valve includes an inlet, an outlet, one or more pivotable shutters, and a shutter articulating mechanism for articulating the one or more shutters between an open state and a closed state. The shutter articulation mechanism actuates in response to the respiration of the wearer. The valve also enables a positive pressure to be maintained within the facemask by permitting an amount of air to flow around the one or more shutters when the one or more shutters are in the closed state.

Breath controlled air inlet for blower

A pneumatic sealing system for a gas mask, which seals the mask to the face of the user by using a pump that employs air from inside the gas mask to variably inflate a mask seal during the breathing cycle. A double diaphragm pump, which has a driving diaphragm and a driven diaphragm, is connected to the inflatable mask seal via a hose duct. The double diaphragm pump is driven by the pressure difference inside the gas mask. During inhalation, the driving diaphragm fills with ambient air and the driven diaphragm fills with filtered air. During exhalation, the driving diaphragm and the driven diaphragm compress, releasing and trapping air in the mask seal.

Pneumatic sealing system for protection masks

A self-sealing protection filter port for gas masks prevents contamination of the inner-environment of the mask during exchange of filters and therefore increases safety. A biased valve closes the air inlet to the port when the protection filter is not installed. As a new filter is inserted, the valve is forced open, allowing filtered air to flow through the air inlet to the user. The protection filter engages the filter port using a retaining element. The self-sealing protection filter in a protection mask having an internal close-biased valve is installed in the standard protection filter port of the mask.

A dual air supply breathing apparatus that allows a user to quickly and easily switch between two or more sources of air or compressed gas, such as filtered air from a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) and compressed air from a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). In one variation, the dual air supply breathing apparatus uses a Y-shaped changeover valve with two input tubes and one output tube. The first input tube receives filtered air from a PAPR and the second input tube receives compressed air from a tank. An actuator controls a flap valve within the changeover valve to seal off one of the input tubes while creating a flow path between the other input tube and the output tube. The changeover valve may be controlled by manipulating the high-pressure valve on the tank of compressed gas and/or by manipulating the switch that activates the PAPR.
