The invention relates to a transmitted-light base () for illuminating an object () for imaging through a zoom microscope (), the transmitted-light base () comprising an integrated light source () having an associated electrical power regulation system () for generating a suitable radiation flux, and means (), capable of being added downstream, for generating a specified spectral intensity distribution. To allow compensation for brightness changes of low dynamic range, such as those occurring in particular during zooming, a continuously controllable mechanical brightness regulator () is proposed which is activatable by means of an associated adjustment device () in such a way that the illumination intensity of the transmitted-light base () is controllable with no change in the spectral intensity distribution. The brightness regulator () is arranged close to the light exit side of a reflector lamp () used as the light source, or, when a lamp () and collector lens () are used as the light source, close to the collector lens ().

A zero-clearance, axially displaceable aligning mount system for optical components includes an unthreaded mount receptacle having a transverse orifice and includes an aligning mount carrying lens elements or lens combinations. A cured plastic casting compound forms a thread substitute in the region of the transverse orifice and beyond it. Coating of this region with an antiadhesion agent, prior to application of the casting compound in pasty form, prevents the molded threads from sticking.

A switchable illumination system for a surgical microscope in eye surgery, which is provided with a light source, a collector lens system, a radiant field stop, optical deflecting elements, further lenses and a main objective. The radiant field stop is projected via the deflecting elements and the further lenses through the main objective onto the patient's eye to be viewed in the object plane. In the illumination beam there is provided a switching mechanism whereby the lamp filament of the light source is projected via the optical deflecting elements and the main objective onto the patient's eye to be viewed in the object planes.
