A medical system is disclosed, which can be useable in particular for monitoring and/or controlling at least one bodily function of a user. The medical system comprises a control device and at least one medical user element embodied separately from the control device. The medical user element and the control device are designed to exchange data wirelessly. The medical system is designed to enable an automatic assignment step, wherein an exchange of personal data between the medical user element and the control device is enabled by the automatic assignment step. The medical system is furthermore designed to automatically initiate the automatic assignment step by means of an assignment coupling between the medical user element and the control device. The medical system is furthermore designed to enable a separation of the assignment coupling for medical operation of the medical system after the assignment step.

Methods are provided for photometrically determining/detecting sample application to an analytical test element for use with a blood glucose measuring device, where the method includes obtaining a sequence of reflectance readings from the test element with the measuring device, including a blank value prior to sample application, and then monitoring changes of the reflectance readings from the test element with respect to a sample application condition defined by a limit for a reflectance decrease or a reflectance threshold. The methods also can include adjusting the sample application condition in accordance with a drift correction and can include determining an analyte concentration in the body fluid sample. The analyte concentration, such as glucose, in a human or animal body is measured with an implantable sensor that generates measurement signals. The measurement signals are compressed through statistical techniques to produced compressed measurement data that can is easier to process and communicate. A base station carries the implantable sensor along with a signal processor, memory, and a transmitter. A display device is also disclosed that can receive the compressed measurement data from the base station for further processing and display.

The present invention pertains to a method for verifying usability of a test element on the basis of the relation of at least one control parameter measurable from the blank test field of a test element to a standard value for the at least one control parameter. In one embodiment, the method comprises determining the deviation between a first ratio calculated from a blank-field reference value measured for the control parameter and a first standard value, and a second ratio calculated from a blank-field control value and the first standard value, and rejecting a test element if the deviation is not within a predetermined tolerance range for the deviation.
