In a device for connecting two tool parts (1, 4) one tool part (1) is provided with a cylindrical fitting plug (2) which can be inserted in a fitting bore (5) provided in the other tool part (4). The fitting plug (2) has a transverse bore (6) with a radially displaceable tensioning pin (7) therein, which carries extensions (8) at its two ends, which engage in conical recesses (11) of two diametrically opposite tensioning elements (9, 10) arranged in the other tool part (4). The extensions (8) of the tensioning pin (7) have a hemispherical peripheral surface (8a) whose radius of curvature (R) as well as the apex angle (.alpha.) of the conical recesses (11) are so dimensioned that the hemispherical peripheral surface (8a) and the conical recess (11) touch at a force contact point (P) which lies radially spaced (r1, r2) from the free ends (8b, 9a, 10a) of the extensions (8) and the tensioning elements (9, 10), and that the lines of action (W) of the forces (K) acting at the two force contact points (P) extend at an angle (.beta.) at approximately 30.degree.-60.degree., preferably approximately 45.degree., to the axis (A2) of the transverse bore (6).

Device for connecting two tool parts

The tool-changing device has a changing head (7). By means of this, tool holders (4) with cylindrical parts (5) of different diameters can be inserted into a tool holder receiver (1). The changing head (7) has, at the end thereof which faces towards the tool holder (4) concerned at any moment, a substantially segmental part (7a) and a first centering recess provided in the latter, which first centering recess is formed by a part-cylindrical centering surface (8) having a radius corresponding approximately to the radius (R1) of the cylindrical part (5) of a first tool holder (4). Portions of a second part-cylindrical centering surface (9) are provided on the two opposite sides respectively of the segmental part (7a) on a part (7b) of the changing head (7) which is widened out in an axial direction with respect to the said segmental part, this second part-cylindrical centering surface (9) being concentric with the first centering surface (8) and its relatively long radius corresponding approximately to that of a cylindrical part of a second tool holder. The latter has near its radial screw-threaded bore a recess for the segmental part (7a). In the center of the first centering recess there is provided a connecting bolt which extends in the radial direction of movement of the changing head (7), is capable of being motor driven in either of two opposite directions of rotation at will and has an external screw-thread (10b) for engagement in the screw-threaded bore (6).

Tool-changing device for a machine tool

The mounting body (1) of the boring tool, which is of a hub-like configuration, is provided, at locations which are diametrally oppositely disposed with respect to the axis of rotation (D) of the mounting body, with a respective mounting bore (3) with its axis (A) extending radially with respect to the axis of rotation (D), the mounting bore being surrounded by a respective abutment surface (4) extending perpendicularly with respect to the axis (A) of the mounting bore (3). A tool head (5) is provided with a fitting spigot (6) which fits into the mounting bore (3) and which is concentrically surrounded by an annular surface (7) extending perpendicularly with respect to the axis (A) of the fitting spigot. A respective intermediate portion can optionally be fitted between the mounting body (1) and the respective tool head (5), the connecting parts of the intermediate portion corresponding to those of the mounting body (1) and the tool head (5). The tool head (5) can be connected to the mounting body (1) directly or with the interposition of the intermediate portion, by way of clamping devices (8-13).

Boring tool

A machine tool spindle, which serves for interchangeably receiving tool holders (13) having different shanks (8,16), has in the spindle head (1a) thereof a frusto-conical receiving bore (3) for the reception of a steeply tapered conical shank of a first tool holder. The spindle head (1a) is provided with an end surface (4) which surrounds the frusto-conical receiving bore (3). Immediately adjacent this end surface there is provided a mating bore (8), the diameter (D) of which is slightly greater than the theoretical diameter of the frusto-conical receiving bore (3) in the plane of the end surface (4). The axial length of the mating bore (8) is equal to about 10 to 15% of the theoretical diameter. The mating bore (8) serves for the reception of a cylindrical mating extension (15) of the second tool holder (13).

Machine tool spindle and tool holder

The machine tool spindle has a cylindrical receiving bore (3) and on its front end a plurality of concentric, annular supporting surfaces (4, 5, 6) which are separated from one another by annular grooves (7, 8) formed in the front end. The tool holders (9a) have mating projections (10) of equal diameter which fit accurately in the receiving bore (3) but shank diameters (D3) which differ stepwise from one another, the outside diameter (d1, d2, d3) of each supporting surface (4, 5, 6) being slightly smaller than the outside diameter (D3) of the annular surface (12a) of the corresponding tool holder (9a). When the annular surface (12a) (of a tool holder 9a), which is located at the transition between the shank and the mating projection (10), is in contact with the corresponding supporting surface (4, 5, 6), the or each further radially inwardly located supporting surface is located in axially spaced relationship to the opposite radial surface of the tool holder (9a).

Machine tool spindle and tool holders suitable for use therewith

A tool holder with radial adjustment means. The tool holder has a connecting portion having a connecting shank, an intermediate portion and a head portion, and a tool receiving means for a tool, in particular a rotary tool. All three portions (2, 3, 4) are of substantially disc-like configuration and bear against each other with their faces (2a, 3a, 3b, 4a) which extend radially with respect to the axis (A) of the connecting shank. Provided at the periphery of the connecting portion (2) are two diametrally oppositely disposed recesses (8) into which two claws (9) arranged on the intermediate portion engage with radial play. Provided at the periphery of the intermediate portion (3) are two diametrally oppositely disposed recesses (14) which are displaced through 90.degree. relative to the claws (9) and into which two claws (15) disposed on the head portion (4) engage with radial play. A first screwthreaded spindle (11) can be screwed in the connecting portion (2), in a first screwthreaded bore (10) which extends between the two recesses (8) of the connecting portion, the ends (11a, 11b) of the first screwthreaded spindle bearing without play against the claws (9) of the intermediate portion (3). A second screwthreaded spindle (17) can be screwed in the intermediate portion (3) in a second screwthreaded bore (16) extending perpendicularly to the first screwthreaded bore (10) and with its ends bears without play against two diametrally oppositely disposed inside surfaces of the head portion (4). Clamping screws (22, 25) which are in axis-parallel relationship are provided for pressing together the faces (2a, 3a, 3b, 4a) of the three portions (2, 3, 4).

The rotary disk for a lathe has near the circumference thereof a plurality of insert-receiving recesses (5) which are circumferentially spaced apart. For each insert-receiving recess (5) there is provided an insert disk (6) which can be removably inserted therein and within which a receiving bore is concentrically arranged. Each insert disk (6) has in the region of the cylindrical receiving bore (8) two diametrically opposite, radially extending screw-threaded bores (9, 10), a clamping screw (11) with a conical recess (12) being screwed into the screw-threaded bore (9) which is located more inwardly with respect to the axis of the rotary disk and a clamping screw (13) with a conical end part (14) being screwed into the screw-threaded bore (10) which is located more outwardly with respect to the said axis. Each tool holder shank (17) which can be inserted into the receiving bore (8) has a transverse bore (18) with a clamping bolt (19) arranged for radial sliding movement therein and is provided at one of its ends with a conical end part (20) and at its other end with a conical recess (21).

Turret head for a lathe and a tool holder suitable for use therewith

In a tool change apparatus for a machine tool, a tool holder receiving means (3) is provided on the machine tool. A tool holder which is provided with a cylindrical portion for engagement of the change arm can be fitted into the tool holder receiving means (3), in the axial direction of the cylindrical portion. A radially extending screwthreaded bore (16) is provided in the cylindrical portion (4a). Provided at the free end of the change arm is a change head (17) which is movable radially with respect to the axis (S) of the cylindrical portion (4a) and which is provided at its outer end that is towards the tool holder (4) with a prism-shaped centering recess (18). Provided in the change head (17) is a connecting pin (19) which extends in the center of the centering recess (18) in the radial direction of movement (V) of the change head (17) and which can be driven by motor means in two opposite directions of rotation and which is limitedly displaceable in its axial direction in the change head (17) and which at its free end is provided with a male screwthread (19c) fitting into the screwthreaded bore (16).

Tool change apparatus for a machine tool

An arrangement for supplying coolant to rotating cutting tools (1) for metal machining, in particular boring tools provided with coolant ducts (2,3), includes a coolant ring (4) arranged rotatably on the tool shank and sealed with respect thereto and having a radially projecting coupling piece (6) provided with a radial coolant bore. On a carrier piece (10) there are provided two intermediate parts (12) arranged at a distance from one another, each of which is swingable at one end (12a) with respect to the carrier piece (10) about an axis extending parallel to the boring tool axis (A), is slidable in a plane extending perpendicular to the boring tool axis (A) and can be clamped with respect to the carrier piece (10), and each of which has at its other end (12b) a bore (16) extending parallel to the boring tool axis (A) for a fixing bolt (17) which can be screwed into a stationary machine part (S). On the carrier piece (10), a holder (8, 8a) is adjustable parallel to the boring tool axis (A), is rotatable about its axis of adjustment and can be clamped in position. On the holder (8, 8a) there is arranged a radially adjustable coupling head (7) provided with a radially extending outlet bore (23) which, on rotation of the cutting tool, can be coupled automatically with the coupling piece (6) with the interposition of sealing means (21).

Arrangement for supplying coolant to rotating cutting tools for metal

In a triangular turnround cutting plate, in particular for precision machining, a main cutting edge (3, 3a, 3b) defines an acute angle with the adjoining auxiliary cutting edge (4a, 4b, 4). A continuous radius (R) is provided between the two cutting edges (3, 3a, 3b and 4a, 4b, 4, respectively) and the length (L) of all three sides is the same. The radius (R) is in the range of 0.15 to 0.3 times the size of the length (L) of the sides of the turnround cutting plate (1) and the center (M) of this radius (R) is arranged offset from the main cutting edge (3, 3a, 3b) at a distance (a, a1) towards the center of the turnround cutting plate (1) which is in the range of 0 to 0.3 times the radius (R).

The turning tool has a disc-shaped base element 1 connectable to the spindle of a lathe and four toolholders 6, 7, each with one or more cutting plate supports 12, adjustable radially relative to the rotary axis (D-D), clampable with an adjusting screw 25, and carrying a cutting plate 23. The base element 1 has a housing bore parallel to the axis (D-D) of rotation to receive a cylindrical shank 5 of each toolholder 6 or 7. Each toolholder 6, 7 has an axial adjusting screw 14 screwable parallel to the rotary axis D-D. A pin 8 in the shank 5 cooperates with an axial groove 9 and is fixed by means of a screw 10 cooperating with a recess 11 in the pin 8 to clamp the shank 5 in the adjusted axial position. A cutting plate carrier insertable in a holder of a machine tool, in particular a lathe tool. The carrier has a plane base surface and a substantially circular plan, the axis of which coincides with the axis of a central screw thread. The cutting plate carrier is provided with a recess for a polygonal cutting plate having a central bore. The cutting plate can be fixed in the recess by means of a clamping screw which can be screwed into the central screw thread. For the cutting plate, the recess has a plane supporting surface arranged parallel to the base surface and a number of bearing surfaces corresponding to the number of lateral surfaces of the cutting plate and extending parallel thereto. These bearing surfaces are arranged at the same distance (a) from the central screw thread. A second screw thread for screwing in a retaining screw inserted into the holder from below is provided parallel to the central screw thread.

An apparatus for supplying a fluid to a passageway in a cutting tool includes a housing having a rotatable spindle thereon, the tool being releasably supported on the spindle for rotation therewith. A cooling medium supply ring rotatably supported on a shank portion of the tool has a first surface which faces substantially radially outwardly and slightly in the direction of rotation of the tool. A coupling head on the housing has a second surface thereon positioned for sealing engagement with the first surface when they are brought into angular alignment through rotation of the supply ring caused by frictional engagement of the supply ring and rotating tool. Fluid passes from a passageway in the coupling head through aligned openings in the first and second surfaces, into passageways in the supply ring, and then through an opening in the shank portion of the tool and into the passageway therein.
