A termination for cables of the type having a central bundle of conductors surrounded by strength members includes a rigid sleeve closely surrounding the bundle of conductors beneath the strength members and a rigid housing surrounding the strength members outwardly of the sleeve. The strength members are encapsulated in a hardenable material to define an enlarged lug closely received between said sleeve and housing. The housing and lug have cooperating cam surfaces for compressing the lug between the housing and sleeve when a pulling force is applied to the housing. The outer diameter of the housing is cylindrical and has a diameter approximately the same as the diameter of the cable outer cover.

An electroplating apparatus comprises a plating tank, first, intermediate, and final rinse tanks, and a plurality of weirs which connect the plating tank and the first rinse tank, the first and intermediate rinse tanks, and the intermediate and final rinse tanks. The plating tank is filled to a predetermined level with a plating solution including plating chemicals and water. The rinse tanks are each filled to the predetermined level with rinse solution including water and plating chemicals which have been rinsed from preceding workpieces. The final rinse tank has an overflow outlet at the predetermined level and receives a continuous flow of water. As water evaporates from the plating tank, rinse solution flows by gravity through the connecting weir to the plating tank to replace it. Similarly, rinse solution flows by gravity through the connecting weir from the intermediate rinse tank to the first rinse tank and flows by gravity through the connecting weir from the final rinse tank to the intermediate rinse tank. The continuous flow of water into the final rinse tank replaces the solution flowing by gravity to the intermediate rinse tank thus maintaining the plating and rinse tanks at the predetermined level. To prevent plating chemicals from migrating from more concentrated solutions to less concentrated solutions, baffles are placed in each of the weirs. The baffles render the flow paths sufficiently long and tortuous so that the evaporation replacing flow offsets the migration of plating chemicals toward less concentrated solutions.

Evaporation driven counterflow rinse system and method

A pair of fluid valves are formed in a common valve body. Movable pistons in the respective valves are normally biased by the fluid pressure input to closed positions whereby button-like or rod-like extensions of the pistons protrude through a top wall of the valve body to urge a pivotal valve operator to a neutral centered position. By manually pivoting the operator against one or the other of the extensions the respective pistons may be moved to open the respective valves.

Excessive pressure is relieved in a fluid actuator by controlled destruction of an internal extensible diaphragm without damage to the exterior structural integrity of the actuator. Upon occurrence of such abnormal excessive pressure in the actuator pressure chamber, the diaphragm, which is otherwise substantially supported, is permitted to deform at a known location until fracturing thereof occurs to release fluid from the pressure chamber. In one form the invention comprises an opening in the actuator guide cap and in other forms comprises openings in the actuator piston or an enlargement in part of the guide cap.
