A rolling train for structural shapes in which at least on one side of a train having a plurality of mill stands, e.g. universal mill stands, a detector is provided for the actual profile of the rolled product. The actual profile is compared with a setpoint profile and corrected setpoint values for the operating parameters of the individual stands are generated for a corrected subsequent rolling operation or even the same rolling operation, appropriately weighted for the contribution of the various stands to the rolling effect.

A method and an arrangement for operating a rotating starting shear operating in a start-stop operation on rolling stock travelling at different speeds in wire mills, light-section mills, medium plate mills and billet mills, wherein the shear, whose gear system is connected through a coupling to a drive motor, is accelerated from the position of rest to approximately rolling speed and, after the cut has been carried out, is stopped again. Rolling stock is transported in a transporting device from a front roll stand to a rear roll stand. Between the roll stands, the rolling stock carries out an oscillation transverse to the transporting direction. At least one characteristic property, amplitude or frequency, of the oscillation is determined quantitatively and, from this determination, a tension or compression, existing in the rolling stock between the roll stands is determined. One of the roll stands is readjusted in such a manner, that a desired tension is built up in the rolling stock between the roll stands.

In the method, the rolling stock emerging from the roll stand is allowed to drop as a result of gravity, the front end of the rolling stock is then deflected in the direction of the subsequent roll stand and the rolling stock is temporarily supported during the deflection phase until the front end of the rolling stock has entered the subsequent stand and the loop control unit stabilizes the loop. The support and guide member is inclined downwardly and extends toward the front roll stand.
