A method for producing the component, and to the use of the component. The method for producing a three-dimensional, ceramic component containing silicon carbide, by a) providing a powdery composition having a grain size (d50) between 3 microns and 500 microns and comprising at least 50 wt % of coke, b) providing a liquid binder, c) depositing a layer of the material provided in a) in a planar manner and locally depositing drops of the material provided in b) onto said layer and repeating step c), the local depositing of the drops in the subsequent repetitions of the step is adapted in accordance with the desired shape of the component to be produced, d) at least partially curing or drying the binder and obtaining a green body having the desired shape of the component, e) carbonising the green body, and f) siliconising the carbonised green body by infiltration with liquid silicon.

Coke including additives that are accumulated at the yield points or in the regions surrounded by the yield points. For homogeneous distribution, the additives are continuously dosed into the delayed coker during the filling time. The dosing can be carried out by powdery blowing with an inert gas (nitrogen) or also distributed in a slurry consisting of the reaction components and a partial flow of the coker feed (vacuum resid, pytar, decant oil or coal-tar distillates). According to an advantageous form of embodiment, the additives may optionally have a diameter of between 0.05 mm and 5 mm, preferably between 1 mm and 3 mm. Advantageously, the additives can be selected from at least one of acetylene coke, fluid coke, flexi coke, shot coke, carbon black, non-graphitisable carbons (chars), non-graphitic anthracite, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, titanium diboride or mixtures thereof.

A composite material containing carbon and a plastic includes: a) provision of a pulverulent composition with one or more components of amorphous carbon, graphite and mixed forms thereof, b) provision of a liquid binder, c) planar deposition of a layer consisting of the material provided in step a) and local deposition of droplets of material provided in step b) onto this layer and any number of repetitions of step c), the local deposition of the droplets in the successive repetitions of this step being adapted according to the desired shape of the component to be produced, d) at least partial curing or drying of the binder to obtain a green body that has the desired shape of the component, e) impregnation of the green body with a liquid synthetic resin and f) curing of the synthetic resin to produce a synthetic resin matrix.

A method produces a molded part from carbon containing carbon fibers in an amount of less than 20% by weight. The method includes comminuting waste parts or scrap parts formed from a carbon fiber-reinforced synthetic material, a carbon fiber reinforced carbon or a carbon fiber reinforced concrete. A mixture is produced from the comminuted product, a binder such as pitch, a carbon material such as coke and optionally one or more additives, wherein the mixture contains less than 20% by weight of fibers. The mixture is molded into a molded part and the molded part is carbonized. Optionally, the molded carbonized part is impregnated with an impregnating agent. Finally and optionally, the molded carbonized part or the molded part impregnated part is graphitized.

Cathodes for aluminum electrolysis cells are formed of cathode blocks and current collector bars attached to those blocks. The cathode slots receiving the collector bar are lined with expanded graphite lining thus providing longer useful lifetime of such cathodes and increased cell productivity. The expanded graphite provides a good electrical and thermal conductivity especially with its plane layer.

Expansion joints located in the upper part of the hearth walls of a reduction furnace are filled with a plate-shaped compressible graphite filler having a density of 0.1 to 0.2 g/cm. A method of manufacturing such a joint filler is also provided.

A mixture for heat storage devices has a phase change material and particulate expanded graphite. The material mixtures are produced by mixing phase change material and expanded graphite as powders or in molten form, and shaping the mixtures into shaped bodies.

A latent heat storage material is in the form of a composite material formed of a phase-change material to store latent heat and graphite flakes incorporated therein to improve thermal conductivity. The graphite flakes are distinguished by a high aspect ratio and a high anisotropy of thermal conductivity. The volume content of graphite flakes in the latent heat storage material is between 10 and 40%. The composite material can be obtained by mixing the components or infiltrating a bed containing graphite flakes with a liquid phase-change material. The graphite flakes are preferably aligned during mixing with the phase-change material by shaking or tamping, etc., so that the thermal conductivity in the direction that is advantageous for the individual application is maximized. A flat gasket for flange connections has a leakage rate below the limit value of 1*10kPa*1/(s*m). The gasket assembly has a thick, areal, pressure-resistant core formed from at least one layer of graphite foil with a base weight of at most 1500 g/m, or a multilayer sandwich of such graphite foils and metal interlayers. The core is embedded between two metal foils, and the surfaces that are remote from the core are covered by covering layers of graphite foil with a base weight of at most 350 g/m. A ratio of the base weight of the graphite foil of the covering layers to the base weight of the graphite foil of the core lies between 1:3 and 1:7.
