A sewing machine is disclosed wherein positioning of the work feeding regulator is controlled by a digital actuator responsive to digital signals applied thereto. The positioning of the work feeding regulator is thereby adjustable in discrete increments. A manual override and feed balance mechanism is provided for effecting continuous positioning of the work feeding regulator.

The present disclosure relates to zig-zag sewing machines including means for controlling the bight stops in order to produce ornamental patterns. In particular, the disclosure relates to electronically controlled sewing machines having storage means for storing stitch information and wherein logic means are used to select and release stitch information in timed relation with the operation of the sewing machine. The disclosure of the invention has particular application in those sewing situations wherein it is desired to use more than one needle in a single needle holder of the needle bar which therefore necessitates a limitation on the magnitude of the jogging or swinging of the needle bar in order to accommodate the multiple needles in the aperture of the needle plate. In accordance with the disclosure of the present invention, whenever more than one needle is used switch means responsive to the presence of more than one needle automatically puts the machine into a multiple needle mode of operation.

Bight stop mechanism for sewing machines

This disclosure relates to means for preventing the reciprocating needle of a sewing machine from operating in a zig-zag mode when a straight stitch throat plate means is positioned on the work bed surface. A latching means is provided for selective interconnection between the zig-zag jogging mechanism and the needle mechanism with said latching means being responsive to movement of the presser mechanism for unlatching the latching means. A locking mechanism is also provided to lock the latching mechanism in an unlatched position.

Safety lockout system for sewing machines

A solenoid is provided in which the armature unit includes a primary plunger and a secondary plunger arranged in telescopic association one with the other and disposed so that the secondary plunger, having both a smaller mass and a smaller air gap than the primary plunger, initially draws in the primary plunger against the anvil without altering the stroke of the primary plunger. The coaction between the two plungers materially reduces the electric energy required to operate the solenoid. While not limited in its application to any particular form of magnetic circuit or to any particular size of magnet, the invention is especially useful in connection with mechanism in which a miniature solenoid is required, and also when it is required to employ a solenoid in which the armature stroke is relatively large and the power requirement must be small.
