The invention relates to deformable, curable or film-forming support materials which contain diagnostically useful additives for locus- and substance-specific intraoral diagnostics, and processes for the preparation of images for intraoral locus- and substance-specific diagnostic purposes, in which diagnostically useful additives are applied to deformable, curable or film-forming support materials containing no diagnostically useful additives, in such a quantity that a diagnostic signal can be observed, the diagnostic result being obtained without a cultivation step.

The invention provides processes for making low viscosity condensates, condensates per se, and processes for making polymers from these condensates. The invention also encompasses the polymer products of these processes, especially articles for dental use. The condensates per se of the invention are of hydrolyzable silanes. The condensates can contain one or more elements selected from the group consisting of B, AI, P, Sn, Pb, the transition metals, the lanthanides and the actinides. Processes of the invention for making polymers from the condensates optionally include use of compounds that can be polymerized ionically or by radical reactions in addition to the hydrolyzable silanes. Curing of the polymers is optionally performed by photochemical, thermal or by redox-induction methods.

The present invention is directed to polymerizable dental compositions containing a) 3 to 80 wt. % of cycloaliphatic epoxides; b) 0 to 80 wt. % of an epoxide or a mixture of epoxides which are different from a); c) 3 to 85 wt. % of a filer material; d) 0.01 to 25 wt. % of initiators, inhibitors and/or accelerators; e) 0 to 25 wt. % of auxiliary agents, the individual percentages of which are in relation to the total weight. The new polymerizable agents are particularly suited as dental material.

The invention relates to a rubber-elastic composition which comprises a polyether material, and which in the completely vulcanized and completely polymerized form, contain 0.1 to 15 wt. %, relative to the total weight of the composition, of at least one hydrophilic nature imparting agent selecting from the group consisting of a hydrophilic silicone oil having one or more siloxane groups as a hydrophobic part and one or more ether groups as a hydrophilic part, a fluorinated hydro-carbon, a block copolymer of ethylene oxide/propylene oxide, a fatty alcohol derivative, an alkyl phenol derivative, a fatty amine, an amine oxide, a fatty acid glycol and glycerin derivative, a fatty acid, and a fatty acid monoester. The composition is suitable as dental impression composition and has, in the completely polymerized state, even with multiple disinfections in an aqueous disinfecting solution, a continuing good ability to flow on (small wetting angle) and an unchanged dimensional stability.

Hydrophilized polyethers

It has been found that silicone resins which contain alkoxy functional groups and harden rapidly in the presence of moisture allow suitable one-component formulations as provisional fixing materials. The hardening rate can be adjusted by addition of suitable activators.

There are provided formable compositions which comprise: (A) 25 to 80% by weight of a glass ionomer cement, containing (a) an aluminum fluorosilicate glass, (b) at least one polymeric polyacid with an average molecular weight &gt;500, (c) water and (d) optionally a chelating agent; (B) and 20 to 75% by weight of a fluoride and/or oxide and/or mixed fluoride and/or mixed oxide of heavy metal elements which are essentially insoluble at ambient temperatures in an aqueous solution containing the polymeric polyacid and/or an aqueous solution containing the chelating agent. Bone replacement parts consisting of glass ionomer cement are superior to those made of ceramics especially since they may easily be produced and machined using common grinding and milling tools. The required prosthesis part may therefore be formed of freshly mixed glass ionomer cement during the respective operation, or an industrially prefabricated formed body approximating the idealized shape of the bone part to be replaced may be adapted to the anatomic conditions given.
