A miniature wireless transcutaneous electrical neuro or muscular stimulation unit. The unit has a housing attached to a plurality of electrodes. An electronics module containing an electrical circuit is contained within the housing and provides a sequence of monophasic or biphasic pulses to a patient's pain site via the electrodes. The electrodes can be disposable and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The patient may select and control the intensity and the frequency of the pulses by choosing one of several TENS and microcurrent waveforms, as well as the orientation and quantity of the electrodes. The means for supplying power to the electronics module can be integrated with the electrodes in one detachable and disposable assembly. A worn-remote controller can send transmission signals to a receiver within the electronic module thereby allowing the patient to program specific units placed on the patient's body to perform operations in a specified series of waveforms. The electrodes may be embedded in a splint, bandage, brace or cast, where wires or flex-circuit material connect the electrodes to the unit. The electrodes can be arranged in a grid-like manner to allow for programming of a specific firing order which provides for greater therapeutic effect to a pain site, and may also be embedded in adhesive strips, similar to a conventional Band-Aid.

A selective call receiver (10) utilizes a method for performing over-the-air software programming when the selective call receiver (10) is on or switched off by a user. A first selective call signal is received and programming related information including an anticipated time of transmission of a second selective call signal is received. The selective call receiver (10) is prepared to receive the second selective call signal in response to the programming related information received, whereby the receiver circuitry (30) is energized at the anticipated time of transmission to receive the second selective call signal. The selective call receiver (10) is further switched on at the anticipated time of transmission of the second selective call signal, and the receiver circuitry (30) is energized to receive the second selective call signal when the user has switched off the selective call receiver (10) prior to the anticipated time.

A selective call receiver receives a selective call signal (400) comprising a preamble signal (410). The selective call receiver comprises receiver circuitry (102) for receiving and demodulating the selective call signal (400). A preamble detector (105) is coupled to the receiver circuitry (102) for detecting the preamble signal (410), and a battery saver circuit (126) selectively activates and deactivates the receiver circuitry (102) in response to a signal from a processor (114). The processor (114) provides the signal to the battery saver circuit (126) to deactivate and activate the receiver circuitry (102) during reception of the preamble signal (410) in response to and subsequent to the preamble detector (105) detecting a portion of the preamble signal (410).

Method and apparatus for preamble battery saving in selective call

A selective call receiver (200) includes a receiver (204) which receives paging signals, the paging signals have a preamble (102), a synchronization codeword (104), and at least an address information (108, 110). A synchronization obtaining circuit (206), coupled to the receiver (204), obtains synchronization to the paging signal. The synchronization obtaining circuit (206) has a preamble detector (404) which detects preamble (102), a synchronization codeword detector (406), responsive to the preamble being detected, detects the synchronization codeword (104), and address decoder (408), responsive to the synchronization codeword being detected, decodes the address information (108, 110). A synchronization maintaining circuit (224, 408) maintains synchronization to the paging signals during the address decoding, and a baud rate detector (224) detects valid and invalid baud rates during address decoding. An initiating circuit (412), responsive to the invalid baud rate being detected, initiates the synchronization codeword detector (406) for detecting at least one subsequent synchronization codeword.
