Various configurations and applications of traveling wave grids are disclosed. Systems for transporting particles to feed apertures, and/or for transporting particles from storage reservoirs are described. The systems are particularly useful for transporting toner particles in printing systems.

Continuous particle transport and reservoir system

A fusing member is formed from an evacuable inner tube with a cylindrical wall. The evacuable inner tube is inserted into an outer tube and the inner tube is pressurized to expand the inner tube such that the wall is in contact with the outer tube. An amount of a working fluid is then sealed within the inner tube at a below atmospheric pressure.

Heat pipe fusing member

A system for transporting and selectively sorting particles includes a first wall and a traveling wave grid extending along the first wall. The system includes a second wall having a passage extending therethrough and a gate operatively associated with the passage. A controller is adapted to output a multi-phase electrical signal. The controller is in communication with the traveling wave grid and the gate. A method of using the system is also provided.

System for transporting and selectively sorting particles and method of using the same

Various particle reservoir systems such as used in printing systems are described which utilize one or more traveling wave grids within a reservoir to selectively transport particles to a reservoir exit. The traveling wave grids serve to transport the particles by use of moving electrostatic fields that travel across the grids. The reservoir systems are adapted for use with a variety of print head configurations.

Reservoir systems for administering multiple populations of particles

A transfer belt apparatus, system and method are provided to prevent image blooming. For example, an ink jet printing apparatus may include a grounded print head, a counter-electrode opposite the ground print head, and a bi-layer transfer belt provided between a print head and a counter-electrode and at least partially supported by two or more transfer bias rollers. A method may include applying a voltage between a print head and a counter-electrode to accelerate ink drops coming out of the print head toward a transfer belt, and evacuating charge accumulated on the transfer belt with a time constant smaller than a drop ejection frequency of the print head.

Conductive bi-layer intermediate transfer belt for zero image blooming in field assisted ink jet printing

An electrostatic gating assembly utilizing at least three electrodes is disclosed. The assembly is particularly well suited for controlled administration of small particles.

Control electrode for rapid initiation and termination of particle flow

Various systems and techniques are disclosed for stopping, selectively controlling, and optimizing a flow of particles in a flowing stream. The systems and techniques utilize a multi-electrode assembly and various voltage waveforms applied to those electrodes. The particles flow past or near the electrode assembly and their flow is controlled by the configuration and arrangement of the electrodes and the voltage waveforms applied thereto. An additional strategy for countering particle leakage flow is also described.

Electrostatic gating

A fuser system of a xerographic device, including a fuser member and a pressure member in which the pressure member is made to exert pressure upon the fuser member so as to form a nip having a nip width between the fuser member and the pressure member, wherein the nip width is set to within a specification nip width range, a drive system for driving said fuser member relative to said pressure roll; a sensor for monitoring the torque of said drive system; a processor in communication with the sensor that receives torque data from the sensor, wherein the processor determines a current nip pressure uniformity from the torque data and compares the current nip pressure uniformity to the specification nip pressure uniformity range, and a nip pressure adjustment device in communication with the processor, which adjusts the current nip pressure uniformity to be within the specification nip pressure uniformity range.

Closed loop control of nip pressure in a fuser system

A toner gating apparatus for supplying toner through an aperture to a gas channel having a propellant stream. The toner gating apparatus has a traveling wave grid having electrodes. A first gating electrode is located proximate a first side of the aperture. A second gating electrode is located proximate a second side of the aperture. A third gating electrode is located in the gas channel. A first voltage source having a first phase is connected to both the first gating electrode and a first electrode of the travelling wave grid. A second voltage source having a second phase is connected to both the second gating electrode and a second electrode of the travelling wave grid. A third voltage source having a third phase is connected to both the third gating electrode and a third electrode of the travelling wave grid.

Ballistic aerosol marking apparatus

A tensioning mechanism is provided for minimizing tension variations in a moveable endless belt having a desired tension setting and includes a moveable member for mounting transversely to a direction of movement of the moveable endless belt and into contact with the moveable endless belt; a first assembly including a first rotatable arm having a first end connected to the moveable member, and a second end coupled to a first pivot; and a second assembly including a tensioning force applying roller, and a second rotatable arm having a first end connected to the moveable member and a second end coupled to a second pivot. The second rotatable arm forms a lap angle with the first rotatable arm, and the tensioning force applying roller applies a tensioning force to the moveable member having a force direction that is non-orthogonal relative to the direction of movement of the moveable endless belt, thereby tensioning the moveable endless belt and minimizing variations from the desired tension setting of the moveable endless belt.

Belt tension variation minimizing mechanism and a reproduction machine having same

A deskewing and registering device for an electrophotographic printing machine. A single sensor determines the position and skew of a sheet in a paper path and generate signals indicative thereof. A pair of independently driven nips forward the sheet to a registration position in skew and at the proper time based on signals from a controller which interprets the position signals and generates the motor control signals. An additional single sensor can be used at the registration position to provide feedback for updating the control signals as rolls wear or different substrates having different coefficients of friction are used.
