A pair of brake shoes (36) arranged opposite one another are intended for engaging the side faces of a rim (F) and are each fastened to the end region of an arm (30, 31) of a brake caliper (29). The arms (30, 31) are jointly pivotable, counter to the effect of a restoring spring (47), in a plane at a right angle to the direction of frictional force, and moreover the brake shoes are displaceable to a restricted extent in a direction at a right angle to the pivoting plane. The arms (30, 31) interact with a sloping face (23, 24), in order, during the displacement of the brake shoes (36), to be pressed against the corresponding side face of the rim (F) in an assisted manner. To reduce the danger that the arms (30, 31) will jam during the application of the brake and that consequently the braked wheel (11) will lock, the end regions of the two arms (30, 31) are each supported on a sloping face (23, 24) via a freely rotatable roller (51), these sloping faces (23 24) converging in the direction of frictional force and are anchored firmly to the bicycle frame (12, 13). The arms (30, 31) are each pivotable about their own pivot pin (33, 34'), and the sloping faces (23, 24) and rollers (51) are arranged between the respective brake shoe (36) and the pivot pin (33, 34').

Two support legs mutually coupled to have a common pivoting motion between a supporting position and a rest or idle position are mounted in a pivot block or head mountable behind the drive sprocket bearing of a two-wheeled vehicle, such as a bicycle or moped. In the rest or idle position, both support legs are substantially horizontal and in the supporting position both support legs are substantially upright and spread apart from one another. In order to reduce the construction height of the pivot block or head and not diminish the ground clearance of the two-wheeled vehicle, both support legs are arranged on the side of the vehicle opposite the drive sprocket when they are in the rest or idle position. An arrangement is provided to force one support leg away from the other support leg as both support legs are pivoted into the supporting position.

A luggage carrier intended to be attached over the front wheel of a bicycle contains an attachment device serving for the attachment of the luggage carrier at the steering fork head. To improve the torsional resistance of the luggage carrier and to be able to secure such luggage carrier also at the steering fork heads of existing vehicles without the need to disassemble any parts, the attachment device comprises two caps or hood members intended to engage about both shoulders of the steering fork head. Each of these caps can be fixedly clamped by means of a preferably wedge-shaped clamping body at the related shoulder of the steering fork head.

An apparatus for the releasable, force-locking connection of two telescopically arranged tubes, especially for clamping the steering housing tube in the steering fork tube of a bicycle or the like, comprising an expanding cone axially displaceable within the tube defining an inner tube by means of a threaded spindle. In order to avoid, during clamping, deformation of the inner tube and thus frictional connection between both tubes along only a circular engagement line at the lower end of the inner tube and to eliminate the effect of the unavoidable play between the outer diameter of the inner tube and the inner diameter of the outer tube, the outer surface of the expanding cone bears against wedges. The latter are each arranged in a respective guide slot formed at the inner tube, extending parallel to the lengthwise axis of the tubes and having a closed contour. The wedges can be outwardly displaced by means of the expanding cone, and the longitudinal central plane of at least one of the guide slots and its wedge is arranged in offset relationship with regard to the axis of the tubes. Owing to the frictional connection which is distributed in axial direction it is possible, with this apparatus, for clamped tubes to take-up the larger bending moments of the threaded spindle with the same tightening moment and to transmit larger torque or rotational moments.

A bicycle luggage carrier equipped with a recognition and safety device, comprising a holder bracket hingedly connected to the rear end of a frame and loaded by a spring arranged at the region of the hinge connection, and a support plate facing towards the rear for carrying reflectors. The support plate is arranged between lateral flap members and is connected therewith into a skirt engaging about the rear end of the frame and downwardly depending therefrom.
