A method for running a vehicle () that includes a combustion engine () which can selectively be connected to a driveshaft (). When the vehicle () is in motion and is approaching a downgrade, determining whether the engine () can be disconnected from the driveshaft () for at least a first period of time (T1), and disconnecting the driveshaft () for at least the first period of time (T1); and the engine () also is switched off for the first period (T1). A system that performs the method and a vehicle that performs it are disclosed.

Method and system for a vehicle

A method for an economical cruise control and an economical cruise control which demands from a vehicle engine system a reference speed v, which may differ from a chosen set speed v. Adjustment of at least the set speed vis allowed when the reference speed vdiffers from the set speed v. The adjustment is based at least partly on input from a user of the economical cruise control. A user of the economical cruise control is thus provided with an increased feeling of control over the vehicle's speed.

A comparison of a drive force Frequested from an engine system in the vehicle with a threshold value Ffor the drive force is also carried out. Vehicle speed and coasting control method and system

A method and a system for choosing a transmission mode in a vehicle over the course of a road section, wherein the vehicle has applied coasting prior to this road section and wherein a highest permitted speed vis defined for the road section, below which an actual speed for the vehicle should be kept. A simulation of a future speed profile vfor a possible gear position for a gearbox in the vehicle is conducted on the basis of a road slope obtained from map data in combination with vehicle positioning information and wherein the simulation simulates, when the road section lies ahead of the vehicle, an actual speed for the vehicle over the course of the road section. Next, an evaluation is carried out of whether a suspension of the coasting in favor of the possible gear position is recommended, wherein the possible gear position is deemed recommendable if a highest value vfor the future speed profile exceeds the highest permitted speed v. The evaluation is then utilized in the choice of transmission mode.

A method for controlling a vehicle's speed, including: acquiring a set speed; determining, using using map and location data, a horizon made of route segments, each with a route characteristic; performing simulation cycles, each including: predicting the speed according to a conventional cruise control, which first prediction depends on the route characteristic; comparing the first predicted speed with lower and upper limit values, which define an engine torque for use in the next simulation cycle; making a second prediction of the speed when the engine torque depends on the comparison in the immediately preceding simulation cycle; comparing, as a second comparison, the second predicted speed with second lower and upper limit values, which delineate a speed range within which the speed is maintained; determining, based on the second comparison and/or the second predicted speed in this simulation cycle, a reference value for use by a vehicle control system.

Method and module for controlling a vehicle's speed based on rules and/or costs

A system for governing a reference speed vfor a downhill speed control system in a vehicle in connection with a downhill gradient. A simulation unit simulates at least one future speed profile vfor an actual vehicle speed over a section of road in front of the vehicle, based on topographic information. An establishing unit establishes whether the reference speed vis to be allocated an increased reference speed v. This establishing is based on a comparison of the simulated future speed profile vwith a permitted magnitude of the increased reference speed vand/or with an infringement speed v. An allocation unit allocates the value of the increased reference speed vto the reference speed vif this has been established.

A method for running of a vehicle having a combustion engine which can selectively be connected to a driveshaft () for propulsion of the vehicle, the vehicle can be run in a first mode (M) with the engine connected to the driveshaft () and in which fuel supply to the engine is substantially shut off, in a second mode (M) with the engine disconnected from the driveshaft () and a third mode like the first mode, but with the fuel supply not cut off. On a downgrade, determining whether running in the first mode (M) will result in a speed increase, and then running in the second mode (M) if running it in the first mode (M) would cause a speed increase.

Described is a method for determining a reference value for a vehicle. The method includes: performing a number of simulation cycles Seach comprising simulation steps: making a first prediction of the vehicle's speed valong the determined horizon with a conventional cruise control; comparing, in a first comparison, the predicted vehicle speed vwith vand v, which define a motor torque used in a subsequent simulation cycle; making a second prediction of the speed when the engine torque is a value that depends on the result of said comparison in the latest preceding simulation cycle; comparing, in a second comparison, the predicted vehicle speed vwith v, and vwhich demarcate a range within which the speed is maintained; determining the reference value based on the second comparison and/or the second predicted speed in that simulation cycle S; and controlling the vehicle according to the reference value.

Module and method pertaining to mode choice when determining reference values

A reference value for controlling a vehicle's speed is obtained by: receiving a choice from two selectable driving modes, each driving mode having a unique set of settings that influence the calculation of the reference value; making a first prediction, based on an engine torque Tthat retards the vehicle as compared with conventional cruise control, and a second prediction based on an engine torque Tthat accelerates the vehicle as compared with conventional cruise control; comparing the first and second predictions with a lower limit value and/or an upper limit value, which delineate a speed range within which the speed should be; and determining the reference value based on the mode choice and on at least one of the comparisons and said first prediction and second prediction of the speed along the horizon, such that the reference value is within the speed range.

A method and a system for choosing a transmission mode in a vehicle over the course of a road section, in which a simulation of at least one future speed profile vfor the road section ahead of the vehicle is conducted on the basis of a road slope for the road section. A time period Tis determined on the basis of the at least one simulated future speed profile v, which ensures that a lower transmission mode is chosen before a lowest permitted speed vdefined for the road section and/or a set speed vfor a speed control is reached. During the determined time period T, the transmission mode which is utilized when the simulation is made is applicable for the vehicle. After this, it is evaluated whether a lower transmission mode than the currently used transmission mode shall be chosen. A lower transmission mode shall be chosen if the time period Tfor which the current transmission mode is applicable is shorter than a first threshold period T.

A method for operation of a reference-speed-regulating cruise control and a reference-speed-regulating cruise control which demands from a vehicle engine system a reference speed vwhich may differ from a chosen set speed v. Adjustment of at least the set speed vis allowed if the reference speed vdiffers from the set speed v, which adjustment is based at least partly on a current speed vof the vehicle and on input from a user of the reference-speed-regulating cruise control. Quick and simple user-controlled adjustment of the set speed vis thus achieved.

The method includes: making a first prediction and a second prediction of the speed along a horizon, the first prediction based on an engine torque that retards the vehicle as compared with a conventional cruise control, and the second prediction based on an engine torque that accelerates the vehicle as compared with the conventional cruise control; comparing the first prediction and second prediction, respectively, with a lower limit value and/or an upper limit value, which delineate a speed range within which the speed is to be maintained; and determining the reference value based on at least one of the respective comparisons and the first prediction and second prediction so that the set speed is within the speed range bounded by the lower and upper limit values.
