A multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) scheduling method is disclosed for scheduling transmission from a plurality of transmission instances to a plurality of receivers. The method comprises acquiring, for each pair of a transmission instance and a receiver, a communication quality metric and forming a first group of receivers from the plurality of receivers. The first group of receivers is formed by selecting a first receiver as a first group member and associating a first transmission instance to the first receiver and—when a plurality of communication quality metrics of the first transmission instance and not yet selected receivers fulfill a first criterion for sufficient communication quality—selecting a second receiver from the not yet selected receivers as a second group member and associating a second transmission instance to the second receiver. The communication quality metric of the first transmission instance and the second receiver fulfills the first criterion for sufficient communication quality and indicates a lower communication quality than the highest communication quality among the plurality of communication quality metrics that fulfill the first criterion for sufficient communication quality. The method also comprises forming at least a second group of receivers from the plurality of receivers by repeating the selection steps for receivers not included in the first group of receivers, and scheduling MU-MIMO transmission to the receivers of each group from the corresponding associated transmission instances. Corresponding apparatus, deployment server, and computer program product are also disclosed.

MU-MIMO scheduling

Methods of operation of a wireless device are provided. In particular, Media Access Control (MAC) protocol aspects are disclosed relating to Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) cells and, more generally, to cells of a cellular communications network operating in an unlicensed frequency spectrum. According to one aspect, a method of operation of a wireless device comprises transmitting an Uplink (UL) transmission on a cell for a corresponding UL Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) process, the cell operating in an unlicensed frequency spectrum, and setting a locally maintained status for the UL HARQ process to Acknowledgement (ACK) based on an assumption that the UL transmission was successful.

According to an aspect, a wireless device identifies system frame numbers (SFNs) that are used for wireless transmissions that use a broadcast channel (BCH) transmission time interval (TTI), where frequency hopping cycles (FHCs) are not aligned with a cycle of the SFNs. The wireless device receives FH information indicating how the FHC used for wireless transmissions relates to the SFN cycle and identifies an SFN timing for the wireless transmissions based on the FH information.

A first communication device determines one or more parameters for transmitting on an uplink control channel in an unlicensed band to a second communication device operating in a wireless communications network. The one or more parameters comprise an indication of a duration of a channel sensing period. According to a method performed by the second communication device operating in the wireless communications network, the second communication device determines the one or more parameters. The second communication device then initiates transmitting the determined one or more parameters to the first communication device.

A method for a network node of a wireless communication network is disclosed. The network node is adapted to communicate with wireless communication devices of a first type associated with a first maximum communication distance range and with wireless communication devices of a second type associated with a second maximum communication distance range, the first maximum communication distance range being greater than second maximum communication distance range.

Method performed by a first communication device () operating in a wireless communications network (). A user equipment transmits using at least two uplink transmit antennas and receives a set of control signals in the downlink direction from a cellular network. The user equipment estimates a received signal quality for each control signal in said set of control signals and determines, based on said received signal quality, which control signals have been reliably received. The user equipment derives one or more parameters related to the uplink transmit diversity operation using a subset of control signals from the set of control signals, said subset only including control signals determined as reliably received; and transmits in the uplink direction applying the derived one or more parameters to control the uplink transmit diversity operation. The accuracy of the transmit diversity parameter values derived/set by the UE can be improved. This will enhance the performance of the uplink transmit diversity and will also reduce interference to the neighbor cells.

Methods and devices for uplink diversity transmission

A receiverand method in the receiver for cell search to find an actual base station having a carrier frequency in a radio communications network. The receiver detects a first signal representative of a base stationby performing slot synchronisation, frame synchronization, cell identification, measurement of a signal quality of the first signal and comparison of the measured signal quality with a first threshold value. When a first signal having a signal quality that is greater than the first threshold value has been detected, the receiver searches for at least one second signal representative of a base station for at least one frequency offset comprised in a set of offsets S. Further, when one or more second signals are detected, the receiver selects the signal with the highest signal quality, and detects a broadcast radio channel representative of a base station for the selected signal.

Receiver and a method therein

In one aspect of the teachings herein, a receiver generates an improved estimate of other-cell covariance for the data region of its own-cell signal, by supplementing its pilot-based estimations of the other-cell covariance with supplemental estimations of other-cell covariance that are determined from control symbols transmitted in the control region its own-cell signal and in one or more selected other-cell signals. While the supplemental estimations are derived from the control region, the receiver advantageously fits them against the pilot-based estimations or against received-signal correlations for the data region, and uses the fitted estimations to obtain an improved estimate of other-cell covariance, for use in generating combining weights for equalization processing of the own-cell signal.
