Machines, systems and methods for allocating resources to in a virtualized computing environment, the method comprising detecting one or more host machines with resources allocated to one or more virtual machines (VMs) that are in an idle state; reducing resource entitlements for at least one of the VMs that is detected to be in the idle state to make more resources available for allocation to VMs that are not in the idle state; and increasing resource entitlements for at least one of the VMs with reduced entitlement, in response to determining that the VM with reduced entitlement is no longer in the idle state.

Optimized resource allocation and management in a virtualized computing environment

Machines and methods for optimizing data storage among a plurality of data storage repositories are provided. The method comprises processing a data request submitted for storing data on one or more data storage mediums; determining whether duplicate copies of the data are to be maintained on more than one storage medium so that established quality of service requirements are met; and managing duplicate copies of the data on said one or more data storage mediums to meet the established quality of service requirements while servicing the data request.

Optimizing data storage among a plurality of data storage repositories

A method for managing data transfer in a network environment, the method is provided. The method comprises receiving a request to transfer first data from a first source in a source domain comprising a plurality of sources to a first target in a target domain comprising a plurality of targets. If the first source is configured to transfer data in a first mode or if the first source is configured to transfer data in a second mode and the first data has previously been transferred to the target domain, a signature of the first data is transferred to the first target instead of the first data. If the first source is configured to operate in the second mode and the first data has not previously been transferred to the target domain, the first data is transferred to the first target.
