The invention relates to methods pertaining to cell reselection in a cellular telecommunication system. According to the invention, a connection setup rejection message is used to direct a mobile communication means to attempt a new connection with certain parameter values such as a certain carrier frequency. A plurality of parameter values may as well be indicated in the message, which allows the network to direct the mobile communication means to make a connection setup request to a specific cell, for example. The connection setup rejection message can be for example the CONNECTION SETUP REJECT message of the RRC protocol.

Cell reselection signalling method

A method for selecting a new cell for a station in a cellular telecommunications system, the station being associated with a current cell is provided. The method comprises the steps of measuring at the station the strength of a communication from the current cell, measuring at the station the strength of a communication from at least one other cell, modifying the result of the measuring step in which the strength of the communication from at least one other cell and/or the current cell is measured to take into account a condition of the current and/or said at least one other cell if the measured strength of the communication from the current cell and/or the measured strength of the communication from the at least one other cell satisfy a predetermined condition, if the modifying step is performed, comparing the measured strength of the communication from the current cell and the measured strength of the communication from the at least one other cell at least one of the measured strengths being modified in the modifying step and depending on the results of the comparison changing the current cell with which the station is associated.

Method of selecting a new cell

A method () according to the invention is a method for determining a condidate cell for an active set, where the quality factor of each cell in the active set is determined (), a quality factor of a test cell is determined (), and the test cell is accepted () as a candidate cell for the active set if an acceptance criterion is fulfilled. The method is characterized in that the acceptance criterion is selected () so that for a certain first quality factor of a test cell and for a certain first set of quality factors, consisting of quality factors of the cells in a first active set, the acceptance criterion has the same value as for a certain second quality factor of a test cell and for a certain second set of quality factors, consisting of quality factors of cells in a second active set, when the first quality factor is equal to the second quality factor multiplied with any finite number and the first set of quality factors is the same as a set formed of the quality factors belonging to the second set of quality factors multiplied with the same finite number. The invention relates also to an arrangement, to a mobile station and to a network element where decisions about accepting a cell as a candidate cell for the active set are done.

A method of controlling power with which information is transmitted by a first station () to a plurality of second stations () on a common channel, different information being intended for different stations, said method comprising the step of transmitting said information in said common channel, wherein information intended for different second stations () are transmitted at different power levels.

The invention relates to a method () for controlling transmission power of a signal which is received using a certain number of rake fingers, where a value for a controlled variable is determined () and the controlled variable value is compared () to a target value. The method according to the invention is characterized in that a discrepancy for the controlled variable is determined () using at least the number of rake fingers used in receiving the signal and said discrepancy is taken into account () when comparing the controlled variable value to the target value. Method for controlling the transmission power

The present invention relates to a method of controlling at least one transmission parameter of a connection between a transmitting station (BS) and receiving station (MS. The method comprises the steps of receiving at the receiving station a transmission signal from the transmitting station, determining from the received transmission signal whether there exists a power up requirement or a power down requirement, and monitoring the distribution of the power up and power down requirements over a period. If a predefined form of the distribution is detected, the quality target of the connection is changed. Method and a system for controlling a macrodiversity connection through at least two radio network controllers

The base station of a cellular radio system is in radio communication with the mobile stations of the cellular radio system by using mutually essentially orthogonal channels.
