A method includes collecting, within a printer body, ambient light entering the printer body. Characteristics of the collected ambient light are measured. A color profile based on the measured characteristics is identified. The identified color profile is provided for use in forming a color image on a medium.

Identifying a color profile for an illuminant

A system is disclosed comprising a color image producing device for providing a test pattern on a medium, said test pattern comprising a plurality of color patches, said test pattern having a principal orientation axis under a non-perpendicular angle &#x3b1; with the propagation direction of the medium through said color image producing device; and a color measurement device coupled to receive the medium from the color image producing device and arranged to propagate the medium in said propagation direction, the color measurement device being further arranged to measure the colors of the respective patches of the medium during said propagation, the color measurement device comprising a color sensor mounted on the carriage oriented substantially perpendicularly to the propagation direction. The present application further discloses a color image producing device and a color measurement device that can be used in such a system, and a method for measuring colors with such a system.

The present disclosure includes a number of method, medium, and apparatus claims utilized for color sensor performance. One method includes determining performance of a color sensor, which can be performed by measuring a color parameter intensity and reflectance spectral power distribution of a particular type of print medium with a color sensing utility of a print apparatus. The method also can include detecting a magnitude of a difference between the measured color parameter intensity and reflectance spectral power distribution of the particular type of print medium and a predetermined intensity and reflectance spectral power distribution of the color parameter of the particular type of print medium, where the predetermined intensity and reflectance spectral power distribution is stored in memory.

Color sensor performance

A method is provided of personalizing color reproduction of an output device by determining a user-specific color mapping. A user is enabled to individually select different color reproductions of a plurality of different test images according to the user's preferences, wherein the different color reproductions are associated with different color mappings. The test images are reproduced by the output device or a display device simulating the output device. The user-specific color mapping is determined by combining the color mappings of the selected color reproductions.

Personalized color reproduction

A method of and apparatus for producing a validated print-out. The method includes creating a modified virtual image which includes the data from the original virtual image and a virtual original series of color patches representative of a color gamut. A printed series of the color patches representative of the color gamut using a spectrophotometer to provide a spectrophotometer output is scanned. The spectrophotometer output is analyzed using the processor to compare the output to an admissible range stored in a memory. If the output is within the admissible range, the print-out of the modified virtual image is validated. If the output is outside of the admissible range, the print-out of the modified virtual image is either validated after an analysis of the position of the data points of the modified virtual image in relation to an admissible color gamut, or the modified virtual image is changed.

Proofing method and apparatus that selects the kind of media type and transformation of the input color gamut based on the output device and the results of comparison with a scanned image using a spectrophotometer

A method for printing a coordinate pattern on a medium includes assigning a pattern to the medium. The pattern is formed on the medium with fixer. A method of calculating a position of an object in relation to the medium using the pattern is disclosed. A predetermined wavelength of electromagnetic radiation is projected onto the pattern and a presence of absence of emittance from the fixer of the pattern is detected. A medium including a substrate having a coordinate pattern overlying at least one side of the substrate is further disclosed. The coordinate pattern includes a means for fluorescing when subjected to a predetermined wavelength of electromagnetic radiation. In another embodiment, a system for forming a substantially invisible coordinate pattern on a medium is disclosed.

Printing and detecting a fixer pattern on a medium

A color image processor is configured to locate at least two zones within a document. Within the zones, content types are recognized, wherein the content types may include: text and lines; graphic images; photographic images; and background. A color rendering intent is applied to each of the at least two zones based on the content type within the zone. The zones are then merged into an image.

Fixer is detected on a print mediaby applying a predetermined pattern, FIG., of fixer to the media, and over or under-printing it with a fill of coloured ink, and then optically detecting the predetermined pattern. For example, magenta ink may be applied over the fixer pattern on a glossy media, areas with both fixer and ink having a detectable increase in optical density compared to areas with ink alone. The pattern is scanned and the image information is used to check fixer nozzle functionality and fixer printhead alignment.

Detecting fixer in hardcopy apparatus

To check that nozzles of printheadsapplying fixer or an ink to a print mediaare operating correctly, the fixer or ink is applied to selected locations on a fluorescent print media which is then subjected to ultra-violet radiation; the reflectivities at these locations are detected in the visible spectrum and the information is analyzed using appropriate image processing algorithms. In an ink-jet printer, for example, applied fixer may be irradiated with ultra-violet light by a sourceand applied inks may be irradiated with visible light, with a common detector in the visible light range being employed.

Fixer or ink detection in hardcopy apparatus

A test pattern is scanned to find ideal print-medium advance for a pen (or other marking device). The pattern has a medium; and, marked on it, image patches each with overlapped swaths stepped by different distances. At best there are different-color pens; and for each distance a set of patches, each with a patch for each color (preferably area fills at sensitive tones by color). All patches in a set are best adjacent along a scan direction, with alignment lines above each set across the whole pattern, and a nozzle-conditioning patch at each image patch. A processor prints the pattern, operates a sensor and uses its signals to find optimum advance. The system finds and prints with ideal advance for a most-active pen; or weighs pen activity to find an optimum for all pens based on certain statistical and/or prospective choices.
