A slider assembly is for an electrical switch having an upper housing. The slider assembly includes a slider mechanism structured to be disposed on an exterior surface of the upper housing and a shutter structured to be disposed in an interior of said upper housing and to be coupled to said slider mechanism. The shutter includes a number of biasing members structured to engage and apply a bias force against interior sidewalls of said upper housing, thereby creating a friction force associated with movement of said slider mechanism.

Electrical switch and slider assembly therefor

An electrical wiring device includes a manually adjustable switch, a light emitting diode (LED), a light level sensor, and a microcontroller. The wiring device also optionally includes an occupancy sensor. Light level is sensed through a light pipe and light is emitted by the LED through the same light pipe. When the manually adjustable switch is positioned to energize a load, the LED is deactivated and ambient light level is sensed by light sensors through the light pipe. The ambient light level is compared to a minimum ambient light level to determine if the load will be energized. Alternatively, the LED is deactivated and the ambient light level is sensed through the light pipe when the switch is positioned to de-energize the load. This ambient light level is stored and compared to the minimum ambient light level at a time when the switch is later positioned to energize the load.

The mode selection circuit is configured to select between more than two modes of operation of the universal dimmer. Related methods of operation are also provided.

Universal dimmer with auto load detection and related methods of operation

A slider assembly is for an electrical switch such as, for example, a dimmer switch. The dimmer switch includes a switching member and a housing member. The housing member overlays the switching member and includes an exterior surface, an interior surface, and an elongated slot. The slider assembly includes a slider structured to cooperate with the switching member. The slider includes an interface portion and an attachment portion. The attachment portion extends through the elongated slot of the housing member. The interface portion is movably disposed on the exterior surface of the housing member. A shutter is coupled to the slider. The shutter includes a plurality of resilient elements structured to engage the interior surface of the housing member, thereby creating a friction force associated with movement of the slider.

A mounting assembly is for an electrical switch, such as for example, a dimmer switch, which includes a heat sink. The mounting assembly includes a switching member, an insulator disposed between the switching member and the heat sink, and a separate cover member overlaying the switching member. The separate cover member is structured to secure the switching member and the insulator to the heat sink. The switching member includes a switch body and a conductive tab. The separate cover member secures the switching member to the heat sink, without requiring a separate fastener to be inserted through a hole in the conductive tab. The insulator electrically isolates the conductive tab from the heat sink.

Electrical switch and mounting assembly therefor

The present disclosure provides a wiring device with integrated DC output interfaces alongside AC output interfaces. The wiring device converts AC power received from the grid into DC power that can be used directly by DC loads. In certain example embodiments, the wiring device includes USB receptacles as the DC output interfaces. The wiring device also includes various power management enhancement features. Some such features include crimping and soldering electrical wires directly to the AC output contacts and a midframe for insulating certain components inside the wiring device from heat generated by other components.

The present disclosure provides a wiring device having a color change kit. The color change kit includes a removable skirt and switch cover. The skirt and switch cover, which are disposed on the wiring device and accessible by an end-user, are easily detachable from the wiring device. Thus, the skirt and the switch cover are replaced without replacing the entire wiring device. Further, the skirt and switch cover is replaced without removing the wiring device from a wall box or further disassembling the entire wiring device. In certain exemplary embodiments, the skirt is disposed within a housing of the wiring device, and the switch cover is disposed within the skirt.

A dimmer system for a luminaire is provided. The dimmer system has a dimmer that receives a first current and supplies a reduced-magnitude current. The dimmer system also has a boosting system that receives the reduced-magnitude current and supplies a boosted current to a light source or lamp if the reduced-magnitude current is being received in conjunction with the initial turn-on of the dimmer. The boosted current can be provided for a predetermined period of time. The boosted current can also be provided as pulses of boosted current interspersed with pulses of the reduced-magnitude current. The boosted current can have the magnitude of the first current or range from 70% to 100% of the first current.

A method for providing a kickstart pulse to a dimmer circuit for a light source that is slow starting. The method includes receiving an initial power signal for a light source electrically coupled to a dimmer circuit, and generating, using the initial power signal, a pulse signal. The method also includes sending, for a period of time, the pulse signal to a load control circuit for the light source. In such a case, the light source is illuminated by the pulse signal for the period of time, and the magnitude of the pulse signal is greater than the magnitude of a steady-state signal generated by the dimmer circuit for the light source. The method can be performed using discrete components, integrated circuits, software, some other electrical device, or any combination thereof. A kickstart circuit and a dimmer circuit, using substantially the method described above, is also disclosed herein.

Kickstart for dimmers driving slow starting or no starting lamps

An electrical wiring device includes a dimmable night light therein. The night light includes one or more light sources for emitting light and an optional lens disposed over the light sources. The lens allows light from the light sources to be emitted therethrough. In some embodiments, the lens is used to turn on the night light, turn off the night light, and dim the night light. In some exemplary embodiments, manipulation of the lens selects an operating mode for the device. The device optionally includes an occupancy detection sensor to assist detecting occupancy within a monitored area.

An electrical switch device includes a housing, faceplate, and a light pipe assembly that includes a light transmissive channel, a position stop, and a cam. The device also includes an air gap switch having a movable contact assembly and a stationary contact assembly. The movable contact assembly includes a cam follower that engages the cam of the light pipe assembly. The light pipe assembly is configured to pulled outward from the outer surface of the faceplate. Movement of the light pipe assembly cause the cam follower of the movable contact assembly to move along the cam and separate the movable contact from the stationary contact, shorting the circuit. Pushing the light pipe assembly in a direction back into the faceplate causes the cam follower to move in the opposite direction along the cam and allows the movable contact to engage the stationary contact and close the circuit.

Method and apparatus for a combination light pipe and air gap switch

An electrical wiring device operates in more than one operating mode and includes a microcontroller, an occupancy detection sensor communicably coupled to the microcontroller, and at least one accessible user interface communicably coupled to the microcontroller. The accessible user interface is accessible to an end-user without having to disassemble any portion of the device. The accessible user interface is manipulated to select one of several operating modes. In some embodiments, the device includes a night light that also can be an accessible user interface. In some of those embodiments, one of the operating modes includes a night light operating mode, wherein the device's operation is dependent upon the status of the night light. In some embodiments, an indicator is included to inform the end-user when to stop manipulating the accessible user interface.
