A satellite broadcasting tuner with which satellite broadcasting of any channel can be enjoyed only by a channel selecting operation thereof whether or not broadcasting of the channel involves special signal processing. The tuner includes external input terminals for receiving video and aural signals from an external decoding apparatus, a changing over circuit for alternatively coupling video and aural signals from the external input terminals or video and aural signals from a signal processing circuit, which extracts such video and aural signals from an output of a demodulating circuit for a received satellite broadcasting signal, to external output terminals of the tuner to which an external monitor apparatus is connected, a memory for storing therein channels of satellite broadcasting which is broadcast in a specially processed signal form, and a controller for controlling the changing over circuit to couple, when one of the channels stored in the memory is to be received, the external decoding apparatus to the external monitor apparatus.

Satellite broadcasting tuner

In a broadcast satellite receiver having a power source circuit for supplying a power source voltage to a tuner circuit through a power switch and a socket or receptacle for connecting an external appliance, such as, a video tape recorder, to the power source circuit; power consumption by the video tape recorder connected through the socket or receptacle to the power source circuit of the receiver is detected, and the power switch is closed for operating the tuner circuit when the detected value of power consumption by the video tape recorder is characteristic of operation of the latter, for example, when the power consumption exceeds by a predetermined amount a previously detected value of power consumption in a standby condition of the video tape recorder.

Broadcast satellite receiver

A superhigh frequency (SHF) receiver for receiving satellite broadcast signals having different planes of polarization for adjacent or odd- and even-numbered channels, respectively, is operative, upon sequential channel selection, to sequentially select alternate or every other channel, for example, the odd-numbered channels, having a first plane of polarization, and then to automatically switch the receiving plane of polarization of a polarizer and sequentially select the other alternate channels, for example, the even-numbered channels, having a second plane of polarization. Thus, the user does not have to switch the plane of polarization of the polarizer for receiving the satellite broadcast signal and the plane of polarization of the polarizer needs to be changed only once when scanning the full array of channels so that channel selection can be carried out at higher speed.
