A specimen transfer device having high flexibility is implemented, where a specimen can be transferred between carriers purposed for different kinds of conveyance without decreasing processing speed for the specimen. A plurality of trays that can retain specimen carriers of a transfer destination is provided, and these trays can be freely grouped, and therefore, while a carrier is fed from a tray, a specimen is automatically executed to a carrier in a different tray.

A sample preprocessing system is capable of reducing centrifuging time, which accounts for the majority of time required for a preprocessing step, and at the same time, performing centrifuging under various conditions. A system management unit ascertains the states of a plurality of centrifuge devices, particularly comparing centrifuging start times and centrifuging termination times for the respective centrifuge devices, and selects the centrifuge device for which the processing time is shortest. Specifically, the system includes an adapter that forms a plurality of batches, a gripper to transfer a sample to the adapter, a plurality of centrifuge rotors that centrifuge the adapter in batch units, and a computer programmed to calculate, in advance, a start timing and a termination timing of the centrifuging in batch units, and the batch, into which samples are transferred, is controlled on the basis of at least one of the calculated start timing and termination timing.

When a STAT sample which needs to be centrifuged is inputted in the system, a measure to quickly realize centrifugation of the STAT sample is necessary. In view of the foregoing problem, the invention provides a specimen processing and conveying system in which a centrifuge module incorporated, the centrifuge module being capable of discriminating the operation status of the system at the time point when a STAT sample is inputted and the attribute of the inputted sample and starting centrifugation operation on the basis of the input interval of samples or the arrival interval at the device carrying out centrifugation, and thus capable of starting centrifugation operation quickly when a single or a group of plural samples of urgency is inputted.

There is provided an analysis apparatus in which congestion does not occur and whose analysis efficiency is high as a whole even when the apparatus is an automatic analyzing apparatus to which a plurality of functional modules having different functions and process performances from each other are connected. Also, there is provided an automatic analysis system in which, even when a new functional module is added, it is not required to consider influence on the existing functional modules and restructure a carrying plan or others for improving process performances as a whole. Buffer units paired with the respective functional modules are connected to a specimen carrying line, and an operating-section computer issues an instruction for carrying to the respective functional modules in accordance with requests for specimens, so that carrying-in/out operations are performed as managing respective carrying-possible states among the buffer units and functional modules.

Method for depositing a protective carbon coating on a data recording disk

An apparatus for manufacturing information recording disks is disclosed. The apparatus includes a deposition chamber for providing an undercoat layer to a substrate to be treated, a deposition chamber for providing a magnetic recording layer on the substrate, a deposition chamber for providing a protective layer over the recording layer and a holding chamber for removing the resulting information recording disk upon completion of the process steps. The deposition chamber which provides the protective layer includes a system which selectively introduces heated plasma and oxygen into the interior of the deposition chamber to clean the interior surfaces of the chamber while the apparatus is in use. The heated plasma and oxygen interact with any excess protective layer material, resulting in the formation of a gas which is removed from the interior of the deposition chamber by a pumping system. The holding chamber is used to remove and maintain the processed information recording disk while the interior of the deposition chamber is being cleaned.
