A light source unit includes a first light source configured to emit light in a first wavelength range, a second light source configured to emit light in a first wavelength range, a first dichroic mirror configured to reflect the light in the second wavelength range incident thereon at a first incident angle and transmit the light in the second wavelength range incident thereon at a second incident angle, which is different from the first incident angle, and a second dichroic mirror configured to reflect the light in the second wavelength range that has passed through the first dichroic mirror, wherein after having been reflected by the second dichroic mirror, the light in the second wavelength range is incident on the first dichroic mirror at the first incident angle to then be reflected by the first dichroic mirror.

A light source unit of the invention includes a first light source configured to emit light in a first wavelength range and a wheel in which a first transmitting area is formed, the first transmitting area being configured to transmit light in the first wavelength range incident from a side facing a first surface of the wheel, and the first transmitting area contains a first luminescent material configured to emit first luminescent light including at least a wavelength range of light in the first wavelength range by light in a second wavelength range whose wavelength range differs from that of light in the first wavelength range being shined from a side facing a second surface of the wheel, the second surface being opposite to the first surface.

A light source unit according to an embodiment has a first light source which emits light in a first wavelength range, a second light source which emits light in a second wavelength range which differs from the light in the first wavelength range, a dichroic mirror to which the light in the first wavelength range and the light in the second wavelength range are incident from directions which differ from each other and which reflects or transmits the light in the first wavelength range and the light in the second wavelength range, and an optical device which is disposed on an optical path between the dichroic mirror and the second light source, and the optical device is a spectral member to which a coating is applied which transmits the light in the second wavelength range and reflects or absorbs the light in the first wavelength range.

An optical system unit of a projector of the invention includes an illumination side block, an image producing block and a projection side block, the image producing block, in which a DMD display device is fixed which reflects rays of 'off' state light to the outside of an entrance opening of a projection side optical system, has a resin accommodation case and a metallic light absorbing portion which is disposed on an inner surface of the accommodation case, an inner surface of the light absorbing portion has heat resisting properties and light absorbing properties, and the accommodation case has in an upper surface thereof a cooling opening for preventing the overheating of the resin which forms the accommodation case.
