A seat belt apparatus for a vehicle including: a belt reel; a emergency locking retractor which performs a mechanical locking of the belt reel so as not to rotate in a direction of unwinding a webbing when an unstable behavior of the vehicle is detected by a vehicle condition detection device, and then automatically release the locking if the belt reel rotates in a direction of winding the webbing greater than or equal to a predetermined amount; and a locking continuity determination device which determines whether or not the locking continues after the emergency locking retractor performs the locking based on the vehicle condition and variation of the rotational position of the belt reel, wherein a control device makes a driving motor rotate so as to release the locking if the locking continuity determination device determines the locking continues for greater than or equal to a predetermined amount of time.

A seatbelt device for a vehicle including: a belt reel having webbing wound thereon; a position detection device that detects a winding position of the belt reel; a motor that drives the belt reel to rotate to thereby perform winding of the webbing; and a control section that performs control of electric current conduction to the motor, wherein: the control section performs electric current conduction to the motor at a predetermined amount at the time of a rear vehicular collision or when a rear vehicular collision is predicted; and the electric current conduction amount is controlled, so that during electric current conduction at the predetermined electric current conduction amount, when a winding position detected by the position detection device reaches a predetermined position, variation in the winding position is suppressed.

In a steering handle grasped and rotated by both hands of a driver, an axis of a steering shaft included in the steering handle is inclined so as to be higher in level in a forward direction of a vehicle body, and a left grip grasped by a left hand and a right grip grasped by a right hand are rotatable in opposite directions about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the steering shaft. Accordingly, an upper half of the driver's body sitting on a seat and leaning backwards and a plane of rotation of the steering handle are substantially parallel to each other, thereby ensuring that the driver can rotate the steering handle without stretching and withdrawing his or her arms. Moreover, when the steering handle is rotated, the driver's wrists can be prevented from being twisted unnaturally, leading to an easy steering operation.

A steering apparatus for a vehicle includes a steering angle measuring unit, a vehicle speed measuring unit, a yaw rate measuring unit, a yaw rate-based reaction force control unit for controlling a steering reaction force depending on an actual yaw rate measured by the yaw rate measuring unit, and a yaw rate deviation-based reaction force control unit for determining a standard yaw rate depending on at least the steering angle and the vehicle speed, calculating a yaw rate deviation between the standard yaw rate and the actual yaw rate, and controlling the steering reaction force depending on the yaw rate deviation, and a primary control unit for executing a control operation such that a degree of contribution of the yaw rate-based reaction force control unit is decreased and a degree of contribution of the yaw rate deviation-based reaction force control unit is increased as the yaw rate deviation increases.

A vehicle control system is provided for a vehicle that is steered by steer-by-wire, the system including a battery mounted in the vehicle, a steer-by-wire steering system that turns wheels by an electric motor that is operated by electric power supplied from the battery, a steering controller for controlling the operation of the steer-by-wire steering system, and an engine controller for controlling, by electric power supplied from the battery, the operation of an engine for making the vehicle travel. A booster circuit boosts the voltage applied to the steering controller so that, when the voltage of the battery decreases, the voltage applied to the engine controller falls below its minimum operating voltage before the voltage applied to the steering controller falls below its minimum operating voltage. With this arrangement, it is possible to provide fail-safe operation when there is a decrease in the voltage of the battery which supplies electricity to the steering controller.

A control apparatus for an electric power steering system is provided, which controls a motor for applying assist steering torque to a steering line of a vehicle at least according to steering torque signal of the steering line, vehicle velocity signal and motor current signal. The control apparatus includes a target current controller for setting target current signal for driving the motor, a deviation calculator for computing a deviation between the target current and motor current signals, a deviation adjuster for adjusting the deviation with a variable gain according to the vehicle velocity signal, a proportional element for executing proportional control for the motor, an integral element for executing integral control for the motor and an gain adjuster for adjusting the gain according to a differential of the steering torque signal.

Control apparatus for an electric power steering system

Steering apparatus includes at least one motor for generating a steering assisting force in a direction to steer a steerable wheel, two drive circuits having respective switching elements for PWM-controlling the motor, and a controller for differentiating, between the drive circuits, a control frequency at which the switching element is switched on and off. The differentiated PWM switching timing can effectively reduce switching noise and magnetostrictive sound of the motor.

An electric power steering apparatus using a brushless motor is disclosed. The electric power steering apparatus has a microcomputer for calculating a target current to the brushless motor on the basis of a torque signal outputted from a steering torque detecting part. The microcomputer has a table stored in ROM. The microcomputer calculates the angular position of the brushless motor by referring to the table on the basis of a signal outputted by a resolver.

A non-linear region controller calculates a standard yaw rate from an actual steering angle &thgr;r of steerable wheels detected by a steering angle sensor , a deviation from the standard yaw rate, of a yaw rate &ggr;r detected by a yaw rate sensor , and a rate of change of the yaw rate deviation. Based upon calculated results, the non-linear region controller determines whether tires of a traveling vehicle are in a non-linear region of tire characteristic, and if determining so, exercises a steering amount reduction control to reduce an actual steering angle &thgr;r of the steerable wheels. The determination of linearity of tire characteristic can be made with comparative ease utilizing a commonly available sensor, and the vehicle is controlled using the determination result.
