A multi-cylinder engine wherein a direction in which a crank shaft spans is a front and rear direction and a widthwise direction of a cylinder head () perpendicular to the front and rear direction is a lateral direction, the multi-cylinder engine comprising the cylinder head () which has one lateral side to which an intake-air distributing passage wall () and has the other lateral side to which an exhaust-gas converging passage wall (), a common rail () being arranged around the cylinder head (). In this multi-cylinder engine, the common rail () is arranged immediately lateral of the intake-air distributing passage wall (), thereby positioning the intake-air distributing passage wall () between the cylinder head () and the common rail (). Preferably, an intake-air inlet pipe () is made to stand up at an upper portion of the intake-air distributing passage wall () and is provided with an intake-air flange portion (), which is positioned just above the common rail ().

Multi-cylinder engine

A multi-cylinder engine wherein a direction in which a crank shaft spans is a front and rear direction and a widthwise direction of a cylinder head () perpendicular to the front and rear direction is a lateral direction, the multi-cylinder engine comprising the cylinder head () which has one lateral side to which an intake-air distributing passage wall () is attached and has the other lateral side to which an exhaust-gas converging passage wall () is attached, an EGR cooler being interposed between an exhaust-gas converging passage and an intake-air distributing passage. In this multi-cylinder engine, the EGR cooler () spans in the front and rear direction laterally of a cylinder block () and the exhaust-gas converging passage wall () is positioned just above the EGR cooler (). Preferably, an EGR gas lead-out pipeconducted out of the EGR cooler () is arranged rearwards of an engine cooling fan () so that the engine cooling air produced by the engine cooling fan () might blow against the EGR gas lead-out pipe ().

An entire peripheral surface of a port bent portion (,) of a direct intake port (,) has a peripheral side surface portion (,) close to a cylinder axis (,). The peripheral side surface portion (,) provides a projection (,) for deviating intake air current (A) from the peripheral side surface portion (,) toward an opposite peripheral side surface portion (,). Further, the bent portion (,) has a peripheral side surface portion (,) close to an upper end surface (,) of a cylinder chamber (,), which provides a projection (,) for deviating the intake air current (A). This projection (,) turns a direction of the intake air current (A) from a peripheral side surface portion (,) close to the upper end surface (,) of the cylinder chamber (,) toward an opposite peripheral side surface portion (,).

Direct intake port and helical intake port for engine

A fuel injection device 23 adapted to be attached to an engine and provided with a pump case 1, a fuel injection pump 2, a fuel injection cam shaft 3, a connecting portion 5, an input end portion 6 of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and a temporary holding means 10 is employed and the following procedures are carried out. Both, revolution of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and of a crankshaft 17 is stopped. The pump case 1 is connected to an engine timing gear case 8, and engagements for a timing gear train 43 are carried out. Play in the timing gear train 43 is removed during the turning of the pump case 1 and the pump case 1 is fixedly secured to the timing gear case 8. Thereafter, of the fuel injection cam shaft 3 and the crankshaft 17 are released and allowed rotate.

Method for attaching a fuel injection device to an engine and fuel

In a divided combustion chamber for diesel engine, a main combustion chamber (2) communicates with a sub-chamber (5) through a communication hole (6), the communication hole (6) being composed of a main communication hole (7) and sub communication holes (8), a pair of sub communication holes (8),(8) being provided in the shape of grooves in opposite right and left peripheral surface portions of the main communication hole (7). Provided at boundaries between a peripheral surface of the main communication hole (7) and peripheral surfaces of the sub communications holes (8),(8) are auxiliary communication grooves (9),(9) smaller than the sub communication holes (8),(8) in width.
